Artcore Club

Hmmm, yes, it is the OCD that makes me think about how I can make improvements and often lead me to something.

Let me see what I can do about refining the design before I think about sending any out. But once I get there, Maybe I will reach out for some field testers.
Getting to the game late. I've been off TB for about a month due to needing to take a break...imagine my surprised face when I saw the changes afoot.

Anyway, I'd be interested in one too...Thanks. Feel free to DM/PM me. Bloody brilliant, BTW!

After searching for a few years I found a deal too good to pass up….so this is on its way. Anyone know where I can get similar knobs? I’m putting a vol/blend/tone harness in it

Can the Artcore 30" 5 string be strung with regular length strings? Or do I have to use short scale or medium scale sets? Thanks.

I'm completely in love with this bass!

The AGBV 205 requires 34" strings because of the distance from the bridge to the tailpiece.

If you have the opportunity to actually see the bass in person, measure from the ball end to the nut to get a winding length reference.

I believe the 4 string version, AGBV200, can use 32" because the bridge & tailpiece are less far apart.

That’s me and the bass in the video. That’s all super helpful information. Thank you!

I just bought an AFB 200 and I really like it, but I find that the tuning gear ratio is a bit low for my taste.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement set with a higher ratio?
That’s going to be tough. Especially if you want to keep the look.

That being said, I believe Gotoh has a direct drop-in replacement (no mods) that has chrome, gold, or black tuning key.

They’re 20:1 ratio.

Congrats! Howzabout a photo, when you have a chance? Just curious, if you don't mind me asking, did you buy it new or used? Is Ibanez still making new AFB 200's?

I will get a photo soon. Will try to take one on my gig tonight. I bought it new online through Guitar Center.
What strings are people using on their 30" 5 string Artcores? I have TI flats, and with the short scale it's more challenging to play as I normally do. Thanks.
I’m using the medium scale GHS precision light gauge flats. I cranked up string height and I’m getting a great tone and feel for an upright vibe.

I like that you’re playing near the end of the neck.

So many people here on TB have their playing hand folded over at the wrist straight down just in front or over the bridge pup and can’t understand why they’re not getting the tone they wanted or thought they could as well as not understanding why their wrist hurts. Duh. I call it ‘LFP’ disease.

I saw Chris Brubeck play his Ric 4001 that way (the way you’re playing) and he got very close to an upright tone although admittedly his Ric is also modified and he tends to play tapes.

Great video, great playing and great tone.

I just installed a pre wired harness from Fatbasstone into my Ibanez Artcore 5 string. It turns out the pots and output jack are really cheap in these. With the new harness the tone is more open, the bridge pickup is more punchy, I can use the full sweep of the passive tone knob, and I can now blend the pickups as I choose. I did have to enlarge the opening of two knobs as well as the output jack, but I’m really glad I made the change. Highly recommended!

How did you install the new pots on that type of bass? Don't you somehow have to reach from underneath?
Fishing line or thin string line trick through the F hole or pickup opening with all hollow or semi-hollow bodied.

It’s a real fun time. Not something to do if you’re in a hurry.

I use the clear tubing like what’s used for aerators on minnow buckets. It’s called aquarium tubing and it’s cheap and flexible. Works great. It’s how I upgraded my .33 capacitor to .47

Edit: I pushed the line down on the potentiometer post, and the tube gripped nicely.

Edit 2: I can’t find video where I learned that. There’s a similar one with a guy using surgical tubing on a ES 335.
