I agree with that. Buy the Ibanez HSC. The extra money is worth protecting the AFB. The bass doesn't feel flimsy, but would not survive a solid impact of some sort, like being dropped onto concrete or something heavy falling over into it.
Fair enough - I understand your point of view. I'm just not not crazy about hard cases, and I am just bringing my bass with me in my car to casual jams - never throwing it into a trailer or back of a truck.

So I did find the “Gator GT Bass”
Gator Cases Transit Series Bass Guitar Gig Bag; Charcoal Black Exterior (GT-BASS-BLK)
https://a.co/d/ff4hrjO

It fits “quite” well. A bit tight at the widest part of the lower bout, and it is probably thinner that is ideal. 160 Canadian vs about 260 for the dedicated Ibanez HSC. This might be the winner.

Also just to clarify, I meant the itnerior vertical dimension is a bit thinner than ideal, not the actual case - it seems very sturdy, well-padded and robust for a soft case. Not quite a mono, but pretty good.

Obviously the HSC would offer more protection, but the gig bag is fine if you're okay with it. Glad you found it.

I felt more comfortable with a HC for my AGB200. SW just recently got more of the AGB100C HC in so I ordered. Body fits great. Lots of room at the end of the headstock. Kind of wish it were shorter and not have that dead space. But glad I have something to hold this one tight.

The reason it has that extra room is because it also fits the LS AGB140.;)

Well, the description of the case on SW says
That's because this rugged yet classy AGB100C hardshell guitar case was made to fit the exact dimensions and contours of your instrument, fitting it in a way a generic case simply can't.
So, I am disappointed by that.
Contours? Yes, it fits the body very well.
Exact Dimensions? ah, no. Fail.

I wouldn’t complain.
It’s a cost savings for Ibanez.
The bass isn’t going to move.
More than likely old Ad copy.

Unfortunately those that own an ASB 180 are not as lucky. The case specifically made for the ASB series was initially made in a similar way. It would fit the ASB 180 and ASB 140. However, later on, without changing the model number of the case for the ASB series, it only fits the SS ASB 180 leaving LS ASB 140 owners with no option and usually being a bit miffed when they receive the case that used to fit both ASB series basses.

As an owner of 4 different Artcore basses I’d rather be stuck with a case that fits the body than a case that is too short for the neck.;)

@HoHumbucker consider it room for a strap… which mine doesn’t have.

Oh, I understand that space can be useful.
And I understand marketing copy accuracy (or lack there of).
I am glad it fits the body nicely.
Yes, I can use the space for strap or other items.
No I am not going to return it.
But I can still feel disappointed that it was not quite what I was expecting. That's life. I'll get over it.
Just wanted to let folks see what it actually is and let them decide for themselves.

OK, since I am an engineer by profession, I can't leave things alone. All this space at the end of the AGB100C HC has been bugging me. Great idea about stashing your strap there. But I didn't want it banging into the headstock. Took a look at the shape of the case and see that there is a taper that runs the length of the neck. Decide that I can design a little barrier to keep larger items at the far end away from the headstock.

So I decided to grab my CAD and work something out.

AGB100C Divider Cad.png

The flat bottom sits right on the bottom of the case cavity.
The sides are angled in to match the taper of the case, and sized to wedge in just on the far side of the headstock.
The curve is to give headstock clearance and to distribute any forces out to the sides.
Decided not to make a basin or cup occupying all the space. the little things can go in the proper storage area under the neck. This space is just to keep big stuff (strap, doo rag, etc) from sliding down the neck.
Took it to my 3D printer, tried to match the interior color, and printed away.

This version is juuussst a little too tall. Will print another a few mm shorter.

now I’m gonna have to see if mine has that room…

Side note…. My pre/DI is developing an intermittent fault… needs to be replaced now. Has anyone here had good luck with a particular pre with the AFB (w/ pyramid flats)? On my previous one I found myself pushing presence and sometimes mids to keep from getting lost in mix…

At first I was gonna say you've got some real OCD issues:woot:, but now I think you're on to something.
I'm a civil engineer specializing in stormwater management and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

How much $ for one plus shipping?

Hmmm, yes, it is the OCD that makes me think about how I can make improvements and often lead me to something.

Let me see what I can do about refining the design before I think about sending any out. But once I get there, Maybe I will reach out for some field testers.

Got mine the other day and its the bees knees!!!! THX!!!!!

For those curious, a Trickfish minnow and compressor does in fact get the AFB to be heard. Great EQ on the minnow. Not a bad setting, just different flavors. Admittedly scooping mids on the AFB causes it to disappear a bit, so I find myself boosting them. I may have to squirrel money away to get their filter pedal as well.
