Artcore Club

NBD for me! I’ve been eyeing the Artcore for a while now and finally found one reasonably priced on FBM. Tons of fret buzz when I tried it at the sellers place, but he was a pro musician and solid dude who explained that the bass had been sitting in storage for a long time, but had played beautifully. Also had a quick ( not great) repair done at the Jack location. In the end I was smitten and took the leap. A few turns of the truss rod and she’s playing like a dream and lookin’ damn sexy!
My questions:
May I have a number, kind sir?
Cases or very thick) gig bag recommendations?
Cheers all!

Hello everybody.
I'm glad I found this club, I'm a big fan of Artcore basses.
I have had three AGB200s and one AFB200, sold.
Today I have an AFBV200A and a rare fretless AFB200F, which I love.
The AFBV200A has nice "aged chrome" tuners, while the AFB200F has horrible white plastic tuners buttons, which are also spinning a bit loose. Has anyone ever managed to replace these knobs?
Thanks anyone who wants to reply.
Luciano
Watching with interest- I’d love to replace the white plastic with ivory to match the binding or gold to match the hardware on my new-to-me AGB 200.

Ibanez has a parts catalog. Look up the part number and call a local owned Ibanez dealer. That’s how I got a replacement pickguard. Only problem is the edge of pickguard is white, and my binding is cream (not sure what it’s officially called). If I had the part number with me, I may have got the correct color. Can’t tell from 10 ft away though.

@Wannabebass

Welcome!:hyper:

Nice looking AGB200! Looks to be a 2010 model year.

You have been issued member #34 in the Ibanez Artcore Bass Club :bassist:.

Search results :: Banzai Music GmbH

I'd be willing to bet that some manufacturers tuning machine would be able to swap out the actual white 'handle' for a gold one. It would be a trial and error thing.

So I did find the “Gator GT Bass”
Gator Cases Transit Series Bass Guitar Gig Bag; Charcoal Black Exterior (GT-BASS-BLK)
https://a.co/d/ff4hrjO

It fits “quite” well. A bit tight at the widest part of the lower bout, and it is probably thinner that is ideal. 160 Canadian vs about 260 for the dedicated Ibanez HSC. This might be the winner.

Semi-hollow bass in a bag really isn’t the way to go.

Like wrapping porcelain china in tissue paper.

But hey, you saved some money getting the bag!

I feel less strongly about this when it concerns a solid body slab o’wood bass, but just MHO, YMMV.

good read here: Gig Bag Vs. Hard Shell Case

All points of view.

I agree with that. Buy the Ibanez HSC. The extra money is worth protecting the AFB. The bass doesn't feel flimsy, but would not survive a solid impact of some sort, like being dropped onto concrete or something heavy falling over into it.

I do like the Wedgie picks. Just the right amount of give, and easy to hang onto. Easily the priciest picks I've ever bought. Probably a lifetime supply, though!
I love them. The one improvement I’d suggest to them would be to have them include the interlocking texture like some Dunlop pics have that really tie-in with your skin on the sides of your thumb and index finger.

I rather like the Black Beauties on the sunburst AGB200. They accentuate and compliment the natural tone of the AGB. The feel is a bit unusual, but I've gotten used to it. A side word - SS Black Beauties are not available anywhere but FretNation in a limited run that DR Strings made for them. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

I just checked, and FretNation has sold out of the shortscale Black Beauties.

Update: I heard from Jason a little earlier, and he does indeed have SS Black Beauties! The link in my original post was invalid, and Jason gave me the correct link. He said FretNation had updated their site.

DR Black Beauties Black Coated Electric Bass Strings Short Scale Set -

He said he has 140 or so sets, so if Artcore owners want to give these strings a try, have at it.

Also: "The ones we have are the 32" Short Scale. The longer 33.25" ones I'm trying to get DR to make more of."

Thanks, Jason!
