Artcore Club

Welp I guess I can get a number now….

View attachment 5205287

it’s wearing mystery flats (guy thought maybe grounds or half flat). There’s all sorts of musical stuff I can do with that unusual bridge (moving plucking hand just before it sounds cool and barely muted). I don’t normally like black basses but this one works.

Welcome!:hyper:

That's a fine looking AFB200 in black! Dressy and ready to go out on the town!!!!

@mrperkolator

You have been issued member #29 in the Ibanez Artcore Bass Club :bassist:.

I hope it is everything you were expecting!;)

Thanks @B-Mac

it’s got some mystery flats and missing a pickguard. I may have fun with the pickguard. The strings are a bit too boomy on the neck pickup, so now it’s time to over analyze strings to find what’s woody and articulate
Keep in mind that not all AFB200 came with a pickguard, specifically the sunburst. Might be the case for the black?

For anyone curious, the length from ball end to nut on the AFB200 is approximately 34.5 inches. 37 to lower tuners. At least on mine. I just measured with tape measure. Looks like labella long/standard are correct for the AFB. This is cool if you want standard strings but short scale.

I normally like marking string with sharpie, remove string, then measure for best results, but this should be close enough.

For mine, Chromes on the AFB200, DR Black Beauties on the sunburst AGB200, and currently, D'Addario XL tapes on the natural AGB200.

I've tried several types of strings on the AFB, and I came back to Chromes. The neck tensions well with Chromes, and the sound of them is just right after a year and some 300 playing hours at home, rehearsals and shows. I did not care for tapes or rounds on the AFB, although I like them on the AGBs.

I'm planning to order some Stringjoy Signatures nickel rounds for the natural AGB200. I used Stringjoys on another bass for a show this summer and really liked the sound and feel. They make Signatures in short and medium scale. I'm going to try the shorts and see how well they fit. David York at Stringjoy says they should.

I rather like the Black Beauties on the sunburst AGB200. They accentuate and compliment the natural tone of the AGB. The feel is a bit unusual, but I've gotten used to it. A side word - SS Black Beauties are not available anywhere but FretNation in a limited run that DR Strings made for them. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].
