Artcore Club

Nice ‘family’ picture!;)

Thanks, B. I have a lot of my collection out right now on floor stands. I have six Ibanez basses. The AEGB24E is in the picture, as is the SRH500F Aerium. There's a SRSC800 Cerro bass out too that's not in the picture.

The Artcores get a a lot of playing time. I have tried various string sets on the Artcores and now have the strings and the setup I like on all three. Very fun instruments, easy to play and they sound great. I love my Ibanez basses!

Has anyone here played on both the AGB200 and AFB200? I’m wondering about player experience between them. Since they’re so similar except for hollow/semi hollow
Yes.
The AFB200 is a deeper body bass (practically 2x as deep). You might find it uncomfortable especially if you don't like ABG's.

yeah I can see that on Sweetwater, and I am concerned about if it is comfortable. At the moment (neither option local to try), I’m wondering about sound difference.

…and because I like to tinker I had the idea last night as I was trying to fall asleep that the floating bridge on afb could easily be remade for options in tone. Since it’s a witness point, I’m sure making the bridge from say ebony would change the tone slightly. It would be fun to tinker with especially since it won’t harm bass

AFB200 is also Full Hollow not Semi-hollow unless the Indonesian version has different specs. Has a definite deeper tone. Feedback can be a bit of an issue compared to the AGB200 which is semi-hollow. It is comfortable for me, but I routinely also play ABG's. There's many whiners on TB (‘ergonomic’ police) who think an ABG is uncomfortable, which is why I bring it up. If you don't like playing an ABG (Acoustic Bass Guitar) then you probably won't like the AFG200.

I own and play:
AGB140
AGB200
AGB205 (I suck at 5 string)
AFB200
ASB140

Well, I almost joined the group yesterday...

I've been looking for an Ibanez Afb205 (5 string) for some time and finally found one for sale at a reasonable price (~390$, including tax and free shipping) at Sam Ash (online) in excellent condition yesterday. I quickly added it to my cart and proceeded to check out. Once I clicked "compete purchase", I was notified that the number of units requested was greater than the number available - in English, someone had purchased it as I was checking out, what bad luck! Oh, well, maybe someday...

Not in any way connected with the seller.

I’d snatch it if I had a chance to play a similar one. It’s nice, I just don’t want to discover that it’s uncomfortable for me (may not be, I have an acoustic 6 string). Pretty color too.

‘Tomorrow’ came & went. Any news?
Sorry...been so busy the past few days. Yes! It arrived and it is in immaculate condition. It came in the same case that Ibanez bought from KTL but without the logo on it. I played it all afternoon the day I got it and played it for a while today until I had to shut off and unplug everything due to severe T-Storms that rolled through earlier. It's actually set up pretty well but I will put it on the bench in the next few days and touch up the truss rod/string height and do the pots mod. I'm trying to decide what strings to put on it, Rounds or Flats and what brand to use. All my basses have round wounds on it (mostly D'Addario) except for two basses, my 4 string Sire fretless and my Fender 1982 AVRI '57 P-Bass.

I contacted the seller and asked if they knew what the age was of the strings and possibly what brand. They said they were swapped out about 2 years ago but played very little...one gig and an hour or two of noodling. They think they are Ernie Ball strings, rounds.

wouldn't happen to have a TKL model number?

Ordered EB Slinky cobalt flats to put on my ASB140 and they came in today...Hopefully I get a chance to put them on tomorrow and do a setup on the bass. It has what I think are EB slinky rounds on it but not 100% sure....maybe not even 50% sure but regardless, they're coming off to be replaced with the flats. Hopefully it'll sound as good as I'm hoping it will sound.

It'll definitely be less string squeaky!

So I put the EB Cobalt flats on and tuned it up and they sound quite good. They are brighter than I thought they would be and that's fine. I'm pretty sure they will get less bright over time as they are played.

I'll let them settle in a bit and then do a set up on it. The strings are a touch too high over the fret board for my liking. A tweak or two on the truss rod and maybe an adjustment on the bridge should bring it in nicely.
