Artists everyone likes that you don't understand

But, really, have you ever just listened to music by someone popular and said, "I just don't get it?" Sure you have.

Yep. Jaco, anything Jack White/White Stripes related, Jason Aldean, Kanye, the current crop of auto-tuned pop-puppets like Beyonce/Taylor Swift/Katy Perry/Justin Bieber. That being said, there is a lot of great, under-appreciated music out there from other parts of the world.

Don't get me wrong, it some cases (ok, pretty much just Jaco from the list above) I have immense respect for their contribution to and their effect on the music world. It just doesn't fall into my listening or playing tastes.

Bruce Springsteen
Nirvana
Godsmack
White Stripes
Lil Jon

tons of 00s one-hit nu RnB "This Week's Flava waste Of Time Rapper (featuring Ho Of Da Month and Lil Jon)"

Im happy for anybody that is successful in the music business but I never understood the correlation of the above artists and their hype/popularity (especially Nirvana....and, yes, Im from that era)

There's no such thing as an artist that "everyone likes".

I don't like anything rap or hip hop and don't care for most modern pop artists.

Rock bands I have never cared for:
Nirvana (In my opinion, the most overrated band of all time)
Pink Floyd
Radiohead
Motorhead
Metallica (Like the music, can't stand Hetfield's voice)
Guns N Roses (Like the music, can't stand Axl's voice)
Megadeath
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Green Day
Fall Out Boys
Iron Maiden
Grateful Dead
Phish
Dave Matthews
Linkin Park
Pearl Jam (Eddie Vedder's vocals are often flat and pitchy)
R.E.M.
Smashing Pumpkins

Devourment- every death metal fan I know of absolutely adores this band... but I find their music dreadfully boring and monotonous.

And though I dare not say this out loud, I'm not much of a Bruce Springsteen fan. The E-Street Band is fantastic, but Bruce... not so much. However, I live in New Jersey and have called that state home for over 3/4s of my life so there is the prevailing attitude of, "How can you be from New Jersey and not like The Boss?" Sorry, but my favorite New Jersey bands are Symphony X, Dillinger Escape Plan, God Forbid, Burt By The Sun, The Misfits, and though I wouldn't listen to Springsteen I'll happily listen to Bon Jovi all day.

And as for Rush, I think it's Geddy's voice that makes them such a divisive band. People either love it or hate it. I can't stand young Geddy's shrieking on early Rush albums, but the way his voice mellows out on Roll the Bones (when he was in his late 30s) sounds fantastic to me. And love or hate Geddy, can you really imagine Rush with any other voice?
