Was talking with someone this evening about this. He brought up a song and I said I just don't get how anyone liked that artist. Then I mentioned another artist i also feel that way about. I probably shouldn't even name them because I know that at least one would offend a very large number of people here. But, really, have you ever just listened to music by someone popular and said, "I just don't get it?" Sure you have.

Taste is subjective, that's the lovely thing. We all have things we love and hate, and none of us are the same. But it's funny, isn't it?

Absolutely, there are definitely a lot of players that are cited here, on other sites, magazines, books and in real life that I think are overrated. I think there is some overexposure that results in brainwashing for some as well.
There are many great ones that are hardly spoken of.
Don't worry about it, like what you like.
You can't wrong if you love what you listen too, and if that inspires you that's great.
I am curious who you are talking about though. But if you don't feel comfortable stating it that's cool too.

I'm willing to share privately, but I really don't want to stir up a hornet's nest, I more just wanted to observe something about how different we all are in our tastes, and how that's all ok. But I don't mind if others share that here.

.38 Special

I'm not saying they're bad, I just don't get the attraction. I was the #1 DJ at my college radio station when we got a promo copy of their first album. Didn't like it then...don't like it now. Are they good musicians? Hell yes. I just personally don't care for their music although a LOT of other people do. I'm sure there is stuff I like that would make other people scratch their heads.

I’m sure most of us can agree, or at least relate.
When I’ve been tasked with learning and playing songs from bands that I consider “less than” I try to stay humble by reminding myself that the artist in question made more money off the song then I will make playing it...this year, next year, ever....maybe more than I’ll ever make playing any music ever. I’m still better than them, it’s just a timing issue and “who you know”.

Seriously! And there has been a lot of music over the years that I have enjoyed playing, even though I might not want to listen to it if it were to come on the radio. So there's a lot of gray area for me in terms of what I enjoy and how I enjoy it :)
