Ashdown Amps(please help)

You don't have to bump your thread after only 20 minutes of no reply. The forum has rules about bumping.

Anyway, I don't have the Electric Blue 180 but I have a MAG 300 which I believe is pretty much the same thing. I think it's a great amp. It's very user friendly and warm sounding. I don't use the subharmonic control myself but it is a neat thing to have I think. I think by using it in a subtle way you could add some beef to your tone.

I have the 15-180, thing is amazing

One of the best combo amps i've used, easily keeps up with my guitarist / drummer and that was before i added a 4x10 underneath it, now the thing soars. Dial in the right settings and you can go from funky funk to punchy crunch.

The subharmonic generator is neat, i've never used it live, but i've messed around with it at home, not a huge feature, the bright and deep buttons are very nifty, i've never used the amp without them on.

I added a crate 4x10 cause i really like the crate sound, older crate sound that is, and it pumps at half volume, input and out, i really like the separate switches for input and output too, can get a good output without even using that much volume, loads and loads of headroom.

That amp is great and is very good. I own a set a MAG300 Rig and that thing sound killer for me consider the price it cost me. Before that i use a Electric 180 12" combo and that thing serve me well. Never break down on me after 12 month.

Like other users said, i also don't use the sub-harmonics. but the deep and bright switch is very userful to use. I will describe ashdown sound as warm tone because thats what their trade mark sound is.

The combo you got will be very useful, if you ever decide you need more volume you can add a cab to the amp to make the amp running at 4 ohm.

I'm an owner of a MAG 300-115, and a 210 cab. I've used this small rig in smaller venues, and it works out fine. One tip though, buy yourself an Aphex Bass Exciter: you'll be amazed how much more low end and air you get out of your amp. I've now upgraded to an ABM 500 head and ABM 410 cab. I compared them, and the only way the MAG could sound somewhat like the ABM was when i used the Exciter. Electric Blue and MAGs are excellent amps, but they won't come close to the ABM series. However, an Electric Blue is an excellent place to start! Set the preamp to 2 o'clock, and the Subharmonics to 10 o'clock, play one octave higher on the fretboard, and you will enjoy it!
