Ashdown VS-212-200

Hey, crguti, i see you brought the VS212 in the end. I have the exact same question: currently using ABM210's and thinking about snapping up a VS212 before they dissapear (will be using with ABM 500 head). How did you find they compare to the 210's? Do you still use the VS212's?
^ The VS-212 has less highs compared to the ABM210. Some kind of dark and vintage-ish sound. But for anything else it sounds pretty cool. Lot of low ends and it saturates quite nice when you push the speakers. I really like the VS212 and I would like to add another one, but I'm considering to get an ABM610 instead and keep the VS212 for the low end.

Not a good idea to use the 212 cab AND the 610 cab together. The 212 cab could be in a lot of danger and blow.
There should be plenty of lows with the 610 by itself.
^ you're right... but I was thinking of biamping both cabs.

Does it ever fart out on you? Judging by your video, you're competing against a full marshall stack and loud drummer. Do you manage to keep up just with the 212?
^ I can keep it easy with a loud drummer. The ABM500 put around 375w into 8 ohms... it can get loud as f*ck.
But something you have to remember, technique and style of music call for different tones. I play with a pick and I want a dirty heavy tone. I use an overdrive into BDDI, then into ABM500. The VS212 can manage the dirty tone quite well but is missing a bit the fast attack and clarity. That's why I like to mix the mic of the VS212 with the DI out of the ABM500.
I haven't used another 212 cabinet, so I cannot compare the sound of the Ashdown VS series with other brands. Furthemore, I modified a bit the cabinet adding bracing and lining (see post #51). IMO, the VS212 has a dark tone, is loud and easy to trasport. Your call...

Just found out from Ashdown that the SPL of the VS212 is 98dB compared to 102dB for the ABM210. That would suggest that the 210's would be noticeably louder, but i know you can't always trust the figures. Did you find you had to turn the volume up on your head much more to get the same volume as your 210's?
to tell you the truth... I didn't push the abm210 to its limits, so I don't how loud it can get until fart out. But I remember that I didn't like the vent being in the back, bcs in some stages you have to place the cabinet right next to a wall and that affects the low response.

same cab with added tweeter (Ashdown have confirmed it to me). Plus some seem to have lost the side handles and just have 1 handle on top. Plus it's lost the retro red speaker cloth
A friendly Irish man once said to me, "when all's said and done there's a lot more said than there is done"...so i decided to get one myself to try out. Turns out i'm fairly sure i brought the last one available new online in the UK. Arrived a couple of days ago. This thing is awesome...so glad i brought it. Even though the spec's on paper suggest otherwise this thing does sound so much louder than my ABM210, but that might be my ears being fooled by the front porting and lower frequencey response. This thing matches so much better with my P bass and seems to have that low mid hump. Great for that Motown sound or rock with the mids boosted. The other unexpected side effect is that now my valve pre-amp on my ABM head actually sounds really good (never liked it with the ABM210). The OD just sounds more aggressive and sweet. OK, its not a cab for slappers or a modren hi-fi sound as it drops off some of the top end being 12's only with no tweeters only but for my sound its perfect. Looks v cool and retro too. Will post a pic sometime. Also glag i got this and not the newer Mag 212 with the non switchable tweeter.
