Tsuyama Atsushi, current bassist of Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. is outstandingly good - especially live.

There was an Asian (Japanese) from my school that played bass for a while. Then he got hooked on Guitar Hero and ended up switching to guitar. Then after he played Rock Band he was plotting to get drums. It's a good thing he didn't follow through with that plan. He barely plays guitar anymore.
My former student, Teppei Kawasaki, went on to win the grand prize in Bass Magazine's national competition a couple of years ago. He's now keeping busy doing sessions in Tokyo and touring with Japanese pop stars. Teppei worked incredibly hard, and I feel like a proud father.

Yeah, Stomu's hot. Another guy in a similar vein (i.e., "avant-jazz" or "comprovisation") is Jeff Song who I believe was the founder of AsianImprov Records. Jeff subbed in my band a couple times, and we've shared the bill on numerous concerts. Really nice guy, very imaginative player. And fwiw he's Korean.
