im indian/kenyan/canadian.. are there any famous indian bassists?? never seen any

How about Norman Watt Roy?

He plays with The Blockheads (formerley Ian Dury and The Blockheads) and Wilko Johnson.

Although raised in London he was born in Bombay and arrived in the UK when he was four and has got to be one of the best players around...he's no spring chicken but still knows how to play some awesome grooves :bassist:

i myself am chinese and i don't know any asian bassists, the only famous one i've heard of is john myung.
where are you my brotha's?

I believe John Myung was born and raised at long island so i guess he is an american.. asian bassist that really caught my ear are Tetsuo Sakurai (Japan) lots of session work with Greg Howe and Dennis Chambers, and Bobby Taylo (Philippines) Session player as well, those two are very good 6 string Jazz or Fussion artist..

chinese everywhere....:D

seems i'm the only chinese chinese guy here? and with bad english.

i guess in china mainland, a boy named Zhang Ju who died 12 years ago is allways THE greatest bass player. back then he played in the metal band Tang Dynasty, and one day crashed on his harley davidson.

another guy infulenced lots of people is Steve Wong(Wong Ka Keung) from the band Beyond.

Here's a a bassplayer who's been involved with the development of popular music in Jamaica since the early sixties, leading his own orchestra for well over thirty years now, and honored by the Jamaican govt....but is practically unknown of outside the island!! From calypso to ska to soca to reggae...Chinese Jamaican Bryon Lee and his Dragonaires keep playing on and on....

i've been called an ABCD (as j-raj had mentioned) before too because i don't like the typical "bollywood" film music (like Dincrest said)

then they see me bust out my sitar :D

i always wondered if there were some indian players blending the classical on bass guitar

Wow! What a flashback I've just had! Byron Lee and The Dragonaires had a HUGE hit here in 1986 with the song "Tiney Winey" from an LP called "Wine Miss Tiny" (which I own, of course). I liked that tune so much and it was one of the very first I tried to learn on bass, since those were my newbie days.

I'm Japanese born in Hawaii.

I think Norm Stockton is part Japanese.

Something that's not widely known is that a guy I used to know back in high school (he was in another band) is also full Japanese and is a first call session player in Austin for a lot of country artists (Dixie Chicks one of them)...his name is Glenn Fukunaga. Haven't seen him since high school, though.

I think Glen Kawamoto (also from Hawaii) of Austin Bass Exchange is also a pretty well known player in those parts as well (Austin).
