I was the bass player and sound man at my last church. I played nearly every service, wedding, Bible study and funeral for 17 years.

...at the good ones! I played Stained Glass Bluegrass at a funeral for a person in West Virginia and then we played all his favorite old songs at the reception at the church immediately after. It's amazing how personal music is for some folks and their families.

I can honestly say that I have only [EVER] played at one funeral... it was weird!
Because it was for the guy whose place I took in that band.

That would have been a touch creepy for me I think. The funeral we played was for a family and community of friends who were very much into music and building instruments. We had played their family/friends reunions for years.

I did say it was weird!! LOL..
I wasn't "in" the band at the time, but had been asked to sit in and play 10 songs with the band at his funeral. The frontman and new BL was the last frontman in my former rock/variety band where I was the guitar player and BL. I was on my way home on the hwy frontage road when I got the call from him asking me to join on bass. It was my start playing bass... I don't play much guitar these days.

We had music for funeral services. I was on the worship team...bass, two guitars, flute, keyboards, drums, couple singers (besides the musicians who also sang.)
