Wow. That looks really good. The pickups and bridge are looking classy. If it sounds nearly as good as it looks you are going to have an amazing bass.

I like to pluck alot of the time a little closer to the neck (than the pickup "thumbrest" allows)
I know its very thin, but when I pluck near the neck I use the pickguard as a thumb rest. it takes some finesse and getting used to, but that way I have a thumbrest in all locations, and if nothing else I can use the "B" as a rest
That's looking fantastic man! I love the separation of chrome. its really makes the red pop but not seem as overwhelming. can't wait to hear it!

The Rickanez ATK4001 is starting to come together more.
I now have all of the components, and I am ready to completely remove the electronics. I think this is going to turn out great!
Need to probably rework the wiring, route for the pickups, and get the pickups rewound.
Floating hand works best for me. I pluck all over the place for different tones, sometimes varying where and how I hit even within a phrase.
Depending where I'm plucking, and which string, my thumb may brush against the fb edge, the pickup shell, the B or the A string for a reference, or nothing at all.
I find that floating keeps my hand more relaxed (no cramping), and helps me to keep a light, consistent attack at all points on all strings. When I tried using a thumbrest, I found that it lead to bad habits- I stretched my hand into an unnatural position when plucking the D or G string, overplayed, etc.
Yeah I see how that can happen easily. when I start moving up the strings, my thumb follows. I CANT just anchor it in one spot, it huts too much. I have small hands with thick fingers, so keep them moving is the only way I can play. I generally anchor on the string right below the one I m playing, keep it floating, or on the pickguard/pickup. it moves a lot though.

I have used my Tri Burst ATK 305 for several practices now,and really am digging it. I play in two bands,and have received compliments from both guitarists on my sound. I may park my G&L 2500,and my Warwick Corvette 5 for a while. Does anyone know exactly what Elixer strings are on it? I think these are the string I have been looking for finally!
There is a CL ad here in Atlanta and the guy says he bought an ATK300 and 305 on closeout several weeks ago (didn't say where) but he's asking $375 and $400 respectively. Seems really high considering MF's $199 and $249 price.

i'm sellin my 305 for $230 + shipping if anyone wants it. others sold them higher. it's in the classifieds. if I don't sell it that's ok too. i'm probably not going to ever use it thought. rarely if ever use a 5, and if and when I do my Bongo's coming out, not this.

I took a quick pic of my rig from church this morning. The ATK performed like a monster. I'm very pleased.

In Israel these go for around 700$ (Yeah, things are overpriced here as hell) and there is no 5 string version
I really really love this bass, it's like the poor man's StingRay but it stands up for itself, I would get 2 or even 3 if I were in the US
1 4 string with maple neck, 1 5 stringer with maple as well and another 5'er to make it fretless like this awesome project I've seen around here with the ebony neck (absolutely stunning)

thats mine! and its still maple, just finished in black and they poly. its nice to be able to still play an instrument that I m most comfortable on, and be fretless at the same time. easy transition.
Well, prices are definitely recovering. There's a used black sparkle 305 on MF for $483.99...

just picked up the ATK300 from another member, this thing is pretty sick. 0 complaints other than some sharp fretwork that'll be addressed. Doesnt put my EBMMs to shame, but it gives it a huge run for their money.
