yes, and I encourage it greatly. I love seeings mods. no worries I'm not a purist. the whole reason I was sold on the atk to begin with was because it just felt good in my hands. it was already modded with a different preamp when I got it

I think it depends on "what model" and "how good of a job is done modding". Personally, I enjoy people getting creative and making 300's their own. BUT...if someone takes a router/belt sander to a USATK or a Custom Shop ATK, I would be in favor of revoking membership

Yes I agree completely on that extreme. if I saw someone doing that, I would find them, slap them across the face with a glove, and promptly take their bass as mine
at that point just build your own body.
This is in alignment with the one I just received. It came with a hang tag stamped '07.2.17 which is February 17th, 2007 and the serial # stamped on the head is I01070222627. An additional hand tag shows this as an IP-01 (ATK300-BK) and has (21) IP01070222627 under the barcode(s). So, this makes it look like it translates as (I01 = IP-01) and then 0702 would be February of 2007. I can only assume the balance of the numbers equates to the sequential numbering for that year which would make mine the 22627th unit perhaps? Just sharing this in the event it might help others without the tags properly date their ATKs.

These other factories follow the same serial number pattern as the Cort Korean factory.
Indonesian Made Ibanez
These guitars start with the following
I=Cort Indonesia factory
K=KWO factory
J=Sejung factory
The example serial number is K031034335
K=KWO
03=2003
10=Oct. So 01= Jan 12=Dec
34335 it is from the Acoustic range
So 00001 to 49999 are Acoustic Guitars, 50000 to 99999 are electric guitars and electric basses
All 3 factories use the same serial number system

Under the E, pickup height is about 1/8" or .125". Under the G, it's probably closer to .09". I used my ART Pro Channel preamp to measure the input gain, and I kept tweaking until the output was much more even.
I guess what irks me is that there were so many people who missed this great opportunity, and would have loved to get their hands on an ATK. There were also a lot of people who bought several of the same/nearly the same instruments (which is fine, I can't tell anyone what to do with their money), only because it was a good deal.
I'm not complaining, I just feel for the people who missed the deal by a matter of hours, and now get to watch as they are resold for more money than originally.
Again, not a complaint or an affront to anyone personally, just an observation! I'm happy with mine, finally played it in a band setting last night through my rig, sounds monstrous. Definitely wanna put new strings on it though.
I understand what you are saying. If people have a problem with it, they can choose not to buy the basses being resold. If I ever want to get rid of mine, I think I might just find a kid in my community that could use a decent bass and call it a day.
You will notice that I01 that leads many of these produced would indicate an '01 build based on that model so you can see that it does not work for most of the models we bought (dated '06 or later).
I posted my analysis as an additional reference for the things that those online sources do not address. I had also leveraged the online sources prior to doing this analysis and ran into inconsistencies. Guitar Dater program also did not work for these newer ones.

Thanks for the info. On mine, the E side is a hair over 3mm and the G side a hair over 2mm. Seems as if we're about the same with the pickup height.
I agree that it would have been nice if people only bought what they could use without the motivation of profit but this is the definition of capitalism. The quick and knowledgeable profiting at the expense of the slow and unacknowledged.
None of mine have the "I01", so I can't help you there.
My 300 starts with "I0801..." and has the tag for '08 as well. I was hoping your "I010" was a type-o. Perhaps they had a type-o while issuing those serials and the "01" maybe should have been "06" "07" or "08" or more likely "10". One thing I do know, the red sparkle was not offered until after 2007(as a 2008 model), the blacks have been around awhile, so who knows? After seeing the way they let the nut on mine slide through QC, I have no trouble believing the Indoneasian's could make a type-o. If it is a mistake, maybe it will be a collectable one day!
My 700 & 750 were both MIK, and start with "CP 07..." and once upon a time I had their tags (probably still do somewhere). Also the 750 has a stamp in the neck pocket that matches the date on the neck's serial. If the 700 has a neck pocket stamp, they painted over it with the blue moon finish and I can't see it.
You just joined in Oct? You'll get used to it.

I used my ATK300 at worship practice tonight and it sounded absolutely killer on the modern Hillsong-style tunes we typically play. It was so rude and snarly in an awesome way. The DR Hi-Beams are a great match and I'm extremely happy I dropped $130 on this bass.
I'll be using mine at a worship gig this evening. ATK305>cable>GB Shuttle 6.0>GK 212MBE.
The simplicity compared to my usual passive P/J rock rig is overwhelmingly awesome. Plus, I show up to the gig with the bass, amp, and cables in my backpack gigbag and the GK212MBE in hand. So light and compact!
