That's the cool thing about deals like this one.

For 90% of what I do, a Stringray would be a disaster. Heck, I hardly ever get off the neck pickup of my fancy 5-string, which means I generally sound pretty much like I'm playing a P-bass.

But if the ATK turns out to be a good fit for me, then I'll have something that works really well for the other 10%. For pocket change!

Curious to what style of music you play. my band plays older style contemporary christian (but our newer stuff has more edge to it) and not in one song do I play more than 8 consecutive 8th notes. I kinda keep a funky finger groove throughout all our songs, excuses to a few, and I come through really nice, usually with not much eq tweaked. I think I essentially have a mid bump going on between the amp (Genz Benz NeoPak3.5 into my Bill Fitzmaurice cab). we have 2 guitarists plus sometimes the singer plays acoustic. We try not to clutter parts (if one guitar is dirty the other is cleaner)

Now I was previously playing in the youth band for like 6 years at my church. on the songs where 8th notes was key, I could hear myself getting lost. Then again, in that application, fingerstyle groove is not what you are trying to achieve. It seems the atk, at least for me, begs to have an out front tone, yet still stay behind the band, great for funky, grooving genres with sonic space opened for bass.

Awesome! I have some D'Addario XLs I can put on my ATK when I feel the need to change strings. I finished setting up my ATK last night. Mostly increasing the overall output of the preamp (trim pot in the control cavity) and adjusting the treble side of the pickup upward so that the output is more even across the strings. :bassist: Can't wait to hear it through a real amp! :D

I too, was wondering what type of music you play..and what you were playing through..

I finally got to play my 305 at practice lastnight.

FRIGGIN LOVE IT.
Love the satin-y neck ,the action,even the strings were pretty good.
And this thing thumps...just playin through my acoustic B200 (which I do enjoy anyway)

But, I can't wait to hear it thru 410s....
As of lastnite..this ATK305 has become my main gigger.


I think I may go on over to the ATK owners club now.

Thanks to all..and congrats to some. ;)

Though, I would like to see this thread make it to Part 2. ;)

I've used mine for rehearsal already and I'm pretty pleased. Will it replace my MIA Jazz and P? no. but certainly a sold back up axe and occasional main bass.

I have to say, I like the ATK build quality over my SX P-bass. IMO it plays better in my hands.

It's always nice to secure a great deal.

I did the same thing with mine. Adjusted the trim pot to increase the signal and raised the treble side. What a difference. I'm curious, how much did you turn the trim pot?

Finally got mine yesterday. The thing is a beast in more ways than one. Sounds fantastic and weighs darned near 12 lbs. Granted, thats via non-digital bathroom scale method. But it's every bit as heavy as my Kramer aluminum neck 8 string! I won't use it as a full time gigging bass, so it really doesn't matter. It definitely fills a gap for me tone-wise, so it's a keeper either way.

Correct in my case. I ordered a 305 from Musicians Friend for $250 before the Music123 match tip came out. I ended up ordering a second with the price match so I'm selling one. If it sits too long I'll just hold it and sell it later for profit.

Sorry for me going OT but I have a question for all of you that owns both a ATK and a Stingray.

How's the necks compared each other? Which one is thicker and which one is more shallow?

I do got a ATK but I've always liked the sound of the Stingray, but I have never got the chance to try one out('cause I'm a lefty).

I understand that some folks may want a one-piece maple neck, but what with declining wood stocks these days, it's just not a good idea, unless you're buying a high-dollar custom.

We're not talking plywood here- it just means that the outer pieces were cut from the same plank, and flipped up on edge. Properly done, this ensures that if the left-hand side tries to warp to the right, the right-hand side will try to warp left, and the forces cancel out.

Wallah- a more stable neck.
