Atlanta Jams/Meet Ups

Hi,

I looking to network with other bass players, and musicians in general, face to face in the ATL. My playing is becoming very stagnant due to the solo jam sessions with my loop pedal :-)

Any suggested jams or meet ups so I can start enhancing my skills with other musicians?

Thanks!

Hi ebick,

Thanks for the suggestion! I went out tonight and had a Great time I didn't find the nerves to jam out, but hopefully I will in the near future hope to see you there.

Take care,
Everette

I feel ya, Everette! There's some Hot SH#^ players that show up there and it can be intimidating. But I will tell you this...I have seen....how shall I put this....all levels of talent....get up there.....and they are very welcoming.....so just go for it.

I am only in Atlanta at most I'd say once a month. If I'm in town on a Monday, you'd likely find me there. I've gotten up there and played guitar twice. Next time, maybe I will try and play some bass.

No way....I've been to Bella's a handful of times and never knew they had Monday night jams. Hopefully I can start catching those. Thanks for the heads up, ebick.

unfortunately, you can't. :crying:

Hey everybody. I have been running the jam at Bella's Pizzeria for a long time now. In fact, I think we just hit the 4 year mark in September. I ran a jam at Charlie Mopps pub for 2.5 years before that. Having hosted jams for the last nearly seven years, I am feeling that it is time for a change. As much as I will miss doing Bella's every Monday, I'm ready to call it a day. So… this coming Monday we'll be doing a Steely Dan theme. It may be the last jam or possibly the Monday after that. I'm not sure yet. I need to talk with Bruce. I hope that you all will come out for the next 2 weeks and celebrate all of the fun that you and I have had playing in Bella's for the last few years. Let's make it a big party.

I believe they postponed the inevitable one week and you can show up Monday, 11/18 for the last one.

Great Tuesday night jam at Local's on Bells Ferry with Barry Richman on guitar, Dana McCarthy on bass (great guy) and other heavy hitters. And there's a good Tuesday jam at Hiram Station in Hiram. Wednesday night Ronnie Brown does a jam at The Place in Woodstock. And Thursday, Darwin's in Marietta has the Cazanovas Blues Jam, one of the longest-running jams in metro Atlanta, at least OTP. All good jams!

Looking at Local's website (which I can't do for too long), it seems they have a Sunday night jam as well, which is cool. Is the one at Hiram station every Tuesday night? I checked out their Facebook page, but I couldn't tell.

WOW..GREAT STUFF...

I have been out of the scene dure to familiy health and death issues..

Hopefully we'll be done by first of the year....

Then my only excuses will be ..AGE ..just turned 60..and day job....

We live several miles south of the ATL Airport. If that isn't bad enough.. Imagine rushing home after work..quick shower..load up..drive through traffic across town..rush to eat.. sign-in...wait my turn..arrive at home in wee hours unload....wake up and go to work next morning??

But it would be worth it to jam with Barry Richman or Liz Melendez.

[Funny..went to Northside Tavern jam night some years back..... RATS ..LITTERALLY the size of OPOSSUMS WERE CLIMBING THE OUTSIDE WALL..WIFE WOULDN'T GET OUT OF THE TRUCK..LOL.. I walked inside.. house bass player saw a few contenders... and began playing Jaco's famous pinch harmonic Byrdland riff..I walked out..we left for home...]

HEY..post this GTG on the Georgia Club TB site..doesn't get many viewers..

If it wan't for TB..I would be bass-deprived...all of my stuff gathers dust..batteries in active basses removed.... but don't feel sorry for me..I am blessed with a loving and very supportive wife...I have a blessing of basses/ equipment/rigs as well.

I WILL RETURN, Atlanta ..ONE DAY.

Late to the party..

Looks like I missed the 'house performance'.

I know Darren from A B G..very nice guy. He's 'going places'.

A B G hosts performance semiars from time to time..never been to one there other than a G T G years back.

Met Adam Nitti as a seminar at Cobb G C a decade or more ago..he played Curbo basses at that time.. next to last time I saw Greg alive..still missing Greg...

Don't sweat missing the house performance this time. I have another solo bass house concert coming up on 3 May. Although the concert part is planned to start at 7 that evening, there's no reason we can't have a local GTG during the afternoon as a great pre-show event. I have the space and pretty cool neighbors. (Other shows on the horizon, as well, but keep in mind that house concerts are really concerts and not jam sessions.)

The May show will again feature Darren Michaels as the opener and the headliner will be Sean O'Bryan Smith from Nashville, TN who is out on the Imaginary Friends tour this spring. You can all show up and join me as SO'S's imaginary friends. We could do a great bass hang in the afternoon, then eat and have a great evening show. Tentative plans will put us outside on my spacious two-level deck, weather permitting. There's plenty of room indoors if Mother Nature doesn't wish to cooperate. I'll even open up my bass room so folks can try out some of my more interesting toys (fretless-5 Roscoe, Dingwall ABZ-5, Lakland Hollow Body, etc.) and seize their opportunities to be members of my wall of fame.

That all said - if folks want to just get together, hang out and jam, I'm happy to provide a space to do that. BYOB and everyone bring a food item makes an impromptu hangout easy to do.
