Oh yeah... meant to complete that last post...

I learned yesterday that probiotics plant the seeds for healthy gut flora. In order for us to grow and maintain that flora we have to actually feed it, and as odd as this sounds, what we should feed it with are unripened bananas, and raw potatoes. I kid you not. I have to read up on this a little more, but that recommendation comes from the wheat belly doctor/author. I think that guy is a bit nuts, but I know his dietary recommendations are working for many people. I'm gonna have a go the next couple of weeks at some raw bananas. And I really want to make a banana dolphin for my wife. She likes dolphins. All women and Anthony Keidas like dolphins. I kinda like them too, but not like they do.
Your stomach does most of the breakdown of food, then the food goes to the intestines where the flora feeds off of the sugars and such broken down by the stomach.

I believe the unripened banana has to do with the fact that we (our stomachs) CAN'T digest it, but the bacteria in our intestines, can. And feed on it.

The subject of gut flora is incredibly interesting and I think there will be lots of research and resultant new information in the next few years. That said, when I hear about people claiming so much harm caused by wheat my eyes glaze over and alarm bells go off.

Digestion is just the breaking up of food into smaller pieces, you mean absorption? Most absorption occurs in the small intestine. Unripened bananas have more starch than sugars, which is more slowly absorbed. So more of the starches/sugars would plausibly reach farther in the small intestine. Apparently unripe bananas also contain a probiotic bacteria is well.

There is actually no scientifically substantiated link regarding the efficacy of probiotics.

Eewwww...

I dunno... To me, a life of eating things I don't like and avoiding almost everything I do like, and living to 100 after almost all my family and friends are long dead, or eating what I like (within reason), and enjoying pleasures of life (within reason) that might cut me down to 80 or so .... erm, I'll take the latter thanks. :)

Besides, there's no proof that eating raw bananas will prevent a head-on with a bus, so ..... even more reason to indulge now!! :p

I couldn't find any carrying a gun:
