Audere classic 4 band

I ran the MK5's in my 5501 with an Audere classic when I had it. The MK5's are just clearer and deeper version of the MK1's. If you are looking for a different sound I would probably so some Nordys. I did not like the big singles with that audere pre, I swapped them for the MK5's and was much happier.

Datsaxguy can you describe the sound of your current set up with ur 55-01? Are you happy with ur results? is this pre better than the bart NTMB compare to the classic 4 band?

I can say the audere is cleaner & smoother than the bart pre, as I have had one. I am only using mk-1's and it still is great. one day I will go to mk-5's

Thanx Jaco for your reply. Another question how much improvement is the Audere pre compare to the stock pre With the MK1 pickups? Cuase i debating weather i go with the Bart pre or Audere i'm looking for punch and cut through.

I am super happy with the audere, bart pre's are sweet also. The fact it has a 4th band allows you to tune the mids more than a bart, hence you will cut more if you want. I think the mid controls were 200hz & 800hz. Compared to the stock pre, I don't think there is a comparison, the mk-1pre was harsh and not so warm, all of that is gone now. for the price I think it is the best thing going.

I just installed an Audere ZJ3 in my 2010 mia jazz bass and I'm amazed at the sound I get from it. The low Z really moves some air with out being muddy at all. This pre amp just put new life into my average sounding jazz bass.:hyper:

I just got my Warwick corvette $$ 4 bass back from my tech. I had him install the Pro Z Preamp. Love the sound and versatility of the EQ.

The Z switch alone really creates a different sound with all EQ @ center dent.
Low Z really adds bottom for R&B vibe.
Mid Z sounds flat
High Z sounds clear, clean and open.

My pickups were super hot though, had to adjust the gain to 8 o'clock for both bridge and neck pickup.

Here is a picture:

Knobs top to bottom:
Volume, Blend, hi-mid/low-mid, treble/bass
3 position Switches top to bottom:
Z mode switch lowZ/midZ/highZ
Neck pup switch series/SingleCoil/parallel
Bridge pup switch series/SingleCoil/parallel

I have an Aguilar in my 55-01 but I'll answer anyway!

I bought Big Splits and Bark Mk5's to try and kept the Barts. Both sound phenomenal, just different. Big Splits are raw, unrestricted, big loud bright Jazz bass tone. Mk5's are fatter, smoother, 'burpier'? Basically the difference between the loudest single coil you've ever heard and a very refined humbucker.
Hi - I know this post is from aaaages ago but thought I’d ask…..
Are you still happy with your MK5 + Audere preamp setup? I’m looking to upgrade to this combo myself.
Many thanks
Bob

Wow it has been a long time! That bass is long gone but I loved the MK5's for what I was doing at the time. If I had it to do again I probably would have gotten a Bart pre as well. The Audere was fine, but I've not had much luck with them as they work a little differently. Also I'd rather have something with a gain control so I could level match with other basses.
