Audio Buddy HELP

Good afternoon everyone. I have a bit of a long winded question. First off, I have just come to own an Audio Buddy preamp. I have tried it out and it works fine. The problem I am trying to solve is the gain on this thing. Straight from instrument to Audio Buddy (AB) the instrument must be turned down very low (3/10) and the preamp gain must also be low to prevent clipping. Is the AB extremely sensitive, or did I do something incorrect? Second. My amp (Line 6 LD300 Pro) has effects built in. Is there a way to go from Bass>Amp>Preamp>Computer? I apologize for my lack of knowledge on my own equipment, but the manual offered no help.

What is your instrument, and specifically what pickups and preamp (if any) does it have? Have you tried tons of instruments? What is your complete signal chain, i.e. what's after the audio buddy (it is not a computer interface).

If your amp has a direct out or "pre out" or "effects send" you can run those into a recording interface. You probably don't need a preamp for that purpose.

I am using an Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird with passive TB-Plus pickups (No preamp) I have yet to try other instruments, so I will try that. As far as the chain goes, it is Bass to preamp. Then from the preamp is goes to an RCA splitter that joins them into a single input into the computer. That is all. I was looking to send the signal from the amp to the preamp to the computer so I can use my amp "In the computer" so to speak.

...It is in the mic input.
My computer is older ('01-04 Dell).
I know what it is you are referring to, but I couldn't happen to find one. I will check again.

However, I went to my guitarists house and he has a brand new machine with Vista. I found the line input on the back of his computer, but no signal was found. I determined that it was either faulty or there was a problem detecting the AB.

So, if I have no line on this current machine, am I stuck with the mic input or is there another way?

Almost every sound card, even on-board cards, has a line-in somewhere. It'll probably be on the back panel, not the front where you might have the speaker and microphone jacks. If it doesn't have one, yeah, you're stuck with the microphone input unless you feel like springing for an interface.

As for your buddy's machine not receiving signal on the line input, I would bet good money that its set to use the machine's microphone input for recording and monitoring. You'll need to fudge some settings in the Control Panel to fix it. You're going to want to go into Sounds and Audio Devices, go to the Audio panel, and set the Sound Recording device to the sound card's line input. If there isn't a setting for the line input, you can probably get at it by going into the Volume Control panel (ie: the speaker icon on the right side of the taskbar), going into the Properties menu and setting the view for Recording.
