AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Dinoadventures and I are meeting at my woodworker's shop on Wednesday evening, as that's sort of a central location for both of us. Dino is going to check out a couple of cabs, and my woodworker will get to see a little bit of what I do in the bass cab world. It is possible that he might invest in a CNC machine, and my ability to provide steady work for his CNC machine will play a role in that decision.

Thank you very much for being so kind. For whatever it's worth, I'm primarily of the r&b/soul persuasion so I won't be rocking very hard. It may get funky, however.

Glad to hear the original Hathor cab, the 1544, is working for you!

I made eight of them, and know where one is that might be available. I'll shoot you a private message.

Hey smperry, looks like we're 2 of the eight!
I own the prototype 1544, I dug mine so much I just couldn't send it back to Duke after beta testing it. I've gigged mine all over town, I love the way it naturally rolls off the deep lows, tames boomy sounding stages and sits in the mix without steeping all over the kick's frequency.

Yep, that was way cool to hear and see in person. I've mentioned using my TC112AF cab for vocals and bass at the same time, another kind of out of the box deal. Here's a recent casual duo recording done that way live in my living room using just a bass amp and guitar amp:

I've used it as my only monitor on a few gigs too, worked fine.

I'm really digging the sweet midrange from this cabinet too. It has great clarity without (what I think of as) "sizzle."

I have a feeling I'm staying in the Audiokinesis fold. I'm simply not willing to take a bath on my TC212, so unless it sells in the next couple of weeks, I think I'm going to close the sale thread and bring it home from the shop. While it really is too much cab for my applications, it's simply too good of a cab to let go for a song.

It's a nice a problem to have. ;)

I have a TC-112 that I feel the same way about. It's too good a cab to let go for some lowball offer. Dukes CS is the best as well.

I just received my 1855!! I just had a bit of time to try it out but my initial impressions are that this thing is a beast!! Soo much good lows and clarity it's amazing! I was comparing it to my TC 112 and to my ears they don't actually sound THAT different - with the 18 sounding like a bigger brother of the TC with more bottom end, authority and more forward mids/snarl. The 2-5" drivers are amazing for distortion and they also go quite high too so it works well with a modern bass with rounds for a good slap tone! You can definitely hear that both cabs come from the same family - I can't wait to give the 1855 a try at a gig.

It ain't real if I don't post a pic so here you go :)

Oh man, the big boy plus a Walkabout, that just has to sound really good.

Yep, Jule's amp would rule through that cab. At the Seattle GTG we were using my tube preamp into a 1000+ watt plate amp using the same power amp module that JGR does, so a fairly similar rig in intent at least. Worked great.
