AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

image.jpeg
My rig tonight. The two TC v3 stack is brilliant!! The MVP needs work tho, thankfully I got the Elrick on standby.

As long as folks are on a Pedulla sidetrack... I've never played one, but the sound and appearance of the MVP/Buzz basses is intriguing. The short horn on top makes me think that the balance and reach will be something like a Warwick Thumb (neck-divey with a reach to the first fret that makes the scale feel uncomfortably longer than it is, at least for me), but I've been told by one or two people that that's not the case. What say ye who have played one?

Apologies for the derail and back to your regularly scheduled cab-programming.

I had a Pentabuzz and didn't notice neck dive that was worse than any Fender-shaped instrument I've owned. They're wonderful instruments and I hope to get a Buzz one day. Mike Pedulla created one of the definitive fretless tones.

Speaking OT definitive fretless tone: not sure which Legacy model it was (there have been quite a few over the years & this was probably more than 10 yrs ago): have you ever played a Zon Legacy 5 fretless?
Great, organic, woody, but articulate tone & played smooth as butter.

Not yet, but Zon is certainly another definitive fretless sound based on what I've listened to. A Legacy Elite is one of my lottery basses. :)

Tonight was a trio plus one with a "new" guitar player (have played with him on the True Crime gigs but not a regular jazz thing). He wasn't really into soloing much so it fell to me so I had too much fun.

Rob Allen into the Blue Rock into a single H1203. I love love love the Hathor. I think I'm going to go forward into the past and pick up a second one. The MAS109 has some interesting stuff going on, but I always come back to the H1203.

Listen at your own peril, but Claire is always worth hearing. No DI bass into the recorder - just xy mic at the front of the "stage"

yes, the cabinet is sitting on the booth seats. The "stage" is an elevated booth with the table removed. Ahh, the glamor of a happy hour jazz gig...

Did some interesting work utilizing my TC118 the past two weekends, and wrapped it up tonight.
One cool thing we can easily do in the digital realm now is reamping. For those un-initiated: you record one or two tracks of your guitar simultaneously. The first track is "dry", essentially identical to what comes out of your guitar with nothing happening to the signal when it's recorded. The 2nd track is your "wet" track that has you effects, amp and so on.
We weren't thrilled with the original tone that we had recorded. Instead of setting up another signal chain and having to spend time to re-record the part, we just grab the dry track and run that through the chain. Boom, completely different tone, same exact playing.

Well, I had three guitar tracks to reamp using my Axe-Fx. Over the past couple of weeks we met at the studio and couldn't really nail down the tone we wanted... until I took the TC118 and used that to monitor. Once we did that, we had the tone locked in within 15 minutes. Tonight, I did the actual reamping, doing some very minor, last minute tweaks (that, once again, I only was able to clearly hear thanks to the AK cab!).

So, thanks @DukeLeJeune! I continue to use your cabs in ways that you likely didn't have in mind when you designed and built them. Everytime I come up with a new use case, the TC118 I have here is always impressive.

GAH, I'm suffering from GASeous Nervosa (since we're already off topic)... I finally put my motorcycle up for sale and I'm twitching while I wait for it to sell. I had a lovely email conversation with Rob Allen and my Mouse is all spec-ed out and quoted, now I just need to generate the funds to make the order. I can practically feel the bass in my hands and it's kind of driving me nuts. I keep imagining what it's going to sound like through the TH500 and TC112v3 and my pulse rises every time.

Hmmm, I never see me soloing the bridge PUP either, but maybe the middle since it will also be a P tone. I also do like neck and bridge in parallel for the Jazz bass tone for the Rock songs. And I will have the 3 series/parallel (boost) switches.... this is going to be so much fun, especially considering the Audiokinesis 115 which will really allow me (and the audiences (thankfully we're not too loud)) to hear the various tones available.
