AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

I’m really stoked about the new cab.
I love my Hathor 1203. The C112T is everything and more.
Played around with them for a while.
A/B’d then side by side, the new cab sounds deeper and the rear firing mid makes it sound even more 3D. More like a FR/FR cab even though it isn’t in the true sense. And it’s not even broken in yet.
The mids, comparitavely, seem much more prominent on the H1203, probably due to the cab size difference.
Stacked together, they sound absolutely wonderful. This will be my new go to rig. It just sounds too good not to be.
Running the pair from my Monique 700 is just ridiculously good. Using the Quilter BB800 is my second favourite combo. Close enough to the Mo700 for prime use in sketchy bars and a good backup to Mo7 in nice places. Both amps are perfectly happy being run flat with the stack.
I’m going to do some knob twiddling with the D800+ to see what I can come up with. The other two are so good with no knob twiddling I haven’t spent much time with it yet.

I may have a problem restraining myself from ordering another cab from Duke.

I've got a v1 ThunderChild 112 that's 4ohms. Going to pair it up with a C112T from Duke some day soon. That Quilter BB800 and the Mesa D800(maybe +) are my short list of 2-ohm capable heads to acquire to make it a possibility. ;)

You probably can’t go too wrong with either. It all boils down to taste. I’m back and forth between the two on a daily basis. It must depend on which way the wind is blowing.
I keep wanting to pick just one and sell the other one of them, and as soon as I think I’ve made up my mind which, I wake up the next morning a realize, I haven’t.

Maybe I have too many cabs. Yeah that’s it.
I’ll sell some cabs. That’ll force me to sell an amp.

Well, "on paper" the Quilter is stable down to 2.7 ohms, but rumour has it on the Quilter thread that it can handle 2. Just be advised that this goes beyond what the amp is spec'ed for...

One thing I know from talking with Duke is that his 4 Ohm cabs are a "high 4 ohm" as he says.. so two of them shouldn't go all the way down to a real 2 ohms I don't think.

I have only experienced the T version cabs and was instantly sold on the sound. Given Duke's inherent tuning for more of a focus at the first harmonic than the low fundamental, I think the taller cabs strike a perfect balance in the low register - very rich and full, but still tight. It immediately reminded me of the Berg CN cabs and how I usually dial in a HPF to get a clean, full, punchy low end. Duke's cabs take EQ well and can boom if you want that, but to me the natural voicing is simply perfect for slotting into a mix and keeping the mud out of the equation.

I want a C112T so bad, but I just played an outdoor gig last night in my typical setup nowadays, and my Rumble 40 combo did the job just fine.
Is it wrong to have a GK-MB500F solely as a backup amp?
I literally have owned it for more than 5 years and never gigged with it.

The answer to your question is that it's absolutely not wrong! Back-up heads should be able to carry the day when called into service...and the MB Fusion 500 will do that admirably.
However, I'm not sure we'd all agree that it's okay to have had that head for 5 years and never had the pleasure of gigging with it! :)

Back when I was doing Birdhaus prototypes, I did a 410 version. My (second) beta-tester kinda dropped off the radar screen for almost a year, and I was afraid something bad had happened to him. Then yesterday I discovered he was trying to sell the cab, and so we reconnected, shall we say. I think he's returning the cab to me, but since he didn't like it enough to keep it, I'm going to read between the lines that it's not a screaming success.

Sorry Al, but Mr. Theorist is virtually a neighbor. And he called it first. Actually I think he and I may have spoken about it a couple of years ago, at a GTG.

No problem Duke and I would do the same thing in your shoes for the same reasons! I just wanted to be sure you knew that none of us made the same assumption you did about the guy selling it because it may not have sounded good...I assumed just the opposite. :)

I would have felt better about it if he had paid for the cab before he tried to sell it.
