Jon Dee Graham, Austin fixture and singer-songwriter, has died at 67. Friends and fans are sharing tributes.

Unless you follow that scene, or were aware of his old band, the True Believers, you wouldn’t know of him, but he was a great rough and tumble songwriter/singer/guitarist, had his struggles, and in the past few years, health problems. The TB’s, fronted by Alejandro Escovedo, were a great guitar army band, straddling the cowpunk and Americana eras in the 80’s, and were a perfect match for touring with Los Lobos. After that ended, he busied himself with all sorts of projects, like the ‘Hobart Family’ collective, which featured Freedy Johnston and Susan Cowsill, plus solo work and other bands and collabs. I’d seen him a number of times, friends of mine knew him well, but I had a most unusual connection…I used to give guitar lessons to his wife when she was a little kid, pure coincidence that she eventually ended up in Austin.
