Austin vacation....finally!

They were also very friendly and helpful, they did have a Fender Jazz MIM sunburst lefty which I got a price on and am still thinking about. Around the corner from H of T is the small vintage guitar shop you talked about. Very, very cool selection of vintage guitars and basses (Rics included) but alas not one lefty. Nothing at all left handed at Strait music or Musicmakers but nice guys non the less. Tomorrow I'll try Bass Emporium and Guitar Resurrection. My wife is so cool she even suggested a mini road trip to Houston to go to Southpaw Guitars tomorrow or the next day. She did really like the sunburst Jazz but i wouldn't let her buy it for me. Not yet anyway...

If y'all wanna take a lil road trip, see if there's any shops with lefty basses in San Antonio. Heck of a lot closer than Houston. And there's cool stuff to see in S.A. The zoo, the missions, etc. are nice. (The River Walk is, imho, overrated, however. That water is pretty nasty.) And if you like amusement parks, Fiesta Texas and Seaworld are there. :)

haha. I worked at Strait for about 3 years in college, in the Band & Orchestra dept. right there when you walk in the door. People are generally pretty cool there, and you're right, the lefty selection usually sucks. Although I did get an awfully nice taylor acoustic guitar from there that I didn't have to special order.

Oh, and sorry I didn't make it out saturday night... saturday was a long day, and by about 7:30 pm I was pretty tired and feeling really antisocial, so I probably would have ended up sitting in a corner looking grumpy.

Anyways, glad you're enjoying Austin so far!

Man, I missed this thread somehow! Too bad you are not in town this sat night, I am playing down at the Dirty Dog.

I can't beleive you know the Dragon Lady! That is a person I have been dying to meet forever. I heard Bob started playing but had forgotten until this thread.

Glad you are enjoying Austin. I was born here, and really don't feel the vibe like I used to when I was younger, but still a great place. For a cool joint to hang out at, try Ego's on Congress, very strange funky vibe about that place. You can catch some pretty good acts down there as well.

Lots more TB'ers on here from Austin than I thought...

Hey everybody, just got back to our room after moving up to Round Rock from Austin. I'm fighting a cold I acquired downtown so I'm making it an early night tonight to see if I can make a speedy recovery. Sorry we won't be in town Saturday night, would of loved to go to the Dirty Dog. We did however go see John over at the Bass Emporium (Ronn, he says hi right back at you) what a selection of right handed basses. I could never figure out how anyone could get worked up about a "boutique" bass, but after seeing the beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail on the basses there I was almost in tears that I can only play lefthanded.:crying: On the other hand it didn't cost me $10,000 by the time I left either. Stopped around the corner at Guitar Resurrection, nice guys also but not one lefty.:( The funny thing is that 3 of the people working there are left handed, they just learned to play righty. Traitors. Anyway keep posting it's really fun to keep in touch with everyone while we're here.
Really looking forward to Friday night Cherie!

DragonLady lives near me. She's a good friend of mine and my husband's. Best fan you could ever ask for, too! She comes to every gig she can get to. She's "real" people, KWIM? :)

I've never been in Ego's. If we're that far south, we're usually at the Continental or the Saxon. Will have to go check Ego's out. :)

I've played Ego's a few times, not since the smoking ban went into affect tho'. You might actually be able to see more than 6 feet in front of you now. Had a long bass discussion with Tommy Shannon there once.

How's your cold, hon?

If you're not on any prescription meds, try this: Take a zinc supplement every day, and take some echinacea, either as a caplet, or in a tea. The HEB in Round Rock should have some, in both forms.

Helps you get well quicker!

Also, if you can stand it, eat some jalapenos. LOADED with vitamin C, and the capcasin (sp?) will clear your head right out.

OUCH!!! I hate the sinus headache. Whatever you're taking for it, add this:

Chinese Clear-Your-Head Tea

An old friend lived and worked in China for many years, and gave me this recipie when I was pregnant and couldn't take anything for my awful sinuses and accompanying headaches.

Add to one cup of hot ginseng tea...
A slice of fresh ginger, mashed
Fresh garlic, mashed (A small clove should do ya)
Lemon juice
Honey
Chinese hot pepper sauce or tabasco

Let it steep, then hold your nose, and drink it down. All the crud will run right out of your head, which will take away the pressure and relieve the headache.

Austin has the highest level of allergens in the entire hemisphere. We are #2 for allergens, world-wide. We probably have more holistic sinus remedies and recipies than anyone on Earth except the Chinese. LOL!

Feel better, amigo, and we'll be seeing y'all tomorrow evening! :hyper:

Yikes! Use that tea an hour or so before you have to go set up. It really is very soothing, and won't make you sleepy or give you cotton-mouth, like some drugs can. Its good to use along with a cold med, since it brings relief without adding any more drugs.

Cherie, I would love to. However, this weekend is the National Youth Worker's Convention downtown. It's a big convention for those of us in youth ministry, with speakers, workshops, music, and a trade show, so me and most of my best friends are going to be downtown at the conference until probably 10 or 11, and I have a feeling we're going to be dragging some people to Casino El Camino to experience the best burgers in town (and maybe scare some of the more sheltered attendees :ninja: )

I'll definitely take a raincheck, though!

Sounds like fun! Enjoy the convention, and CEC! We'll be playing again soon. Last weekend in October, same venue, a benefit show. It'll be 2 p.m., as of last night, anyway. Drummer's trying to get us a little bit later set.

I'll PM you when I have definite info on it. :)
