Austin vacation....finally!

Speaking of The DragonLady and Bass Emporium, I know of DragonLady thru The Dudley&Bob Show on KLBJ-FM. They've had us on many, many times, and we just played Bob's 50th Birthday Party. Anyway, Bob bought a brand-new Ric 4001C64 from BassEmp last month, and it had a dead spot on the D string. He took it back at least 3 times trying to get them to fix the problem, they couldn't. He was gonna sell it on ebay he was so bummed out. He emailed me about it and I told him to tweak the truss rods slightly and it'll fix it. He did and it did. He loves it now.

I had no idea that Bob could play! I'm glad you were able to help him. I wonder who does the repair for Bass Emporium? They can usually fix anything, so I'm told.

Yeah, DragonLady's very cool. She is a good friend of ours. She lives out here near us, and she works in a place that we frequent, so we see her real often. She's threatened to drag me into the studio with Dale and Bob one of these days, but I have, so far, resisted. I turn into a complete dork every time I talk to them...and I don't wanna be a WereDork! LOL!

Cherie :o

Yeah, Bob's been learning for maybe a year now, he sits in with us on ocassion. He's been playing a Hofner copy(he's a big Beatles fan) till he got the Ric. I've known John Files, owner of BE, for years, I was surprised that they had an unhappy customer. Rics are stange beasts tho'.

Very cool! Good for him. Yeah, he'd have to have a Hofner. LOL!

I never have played a Ric. The bassist in my first band (back in high school) played one, but I was the singer, and wasn't playing bass back then. Might ought to go in and play one in the store sometime, just to check 'em out.

Cherie :)

I've always loved Rics, I've had at least one since 1978 or so.

O.K., made it through the week..yea! Only working until noon tomorrow and that's just to make sure all of our jobs are delivered for when we are closed next week. I just wanted to thank all of you for all of the great tips and recommendations and of course the invites to see you guys play (Ronn and Cherie). My wife even remarked how unusual it is for me to have most of the activities and things to go to planned for our vacation instead of her doing the planning. I think she kind of digs it. Anyway we're heading out Saturday a.m. and i'll be bringing my laptop along just to make sure that I am able to log on to TB. See you guys in Austin!:hyper:

Have a safe trip, and we'll see you soon!

We got to see the Eggmen and meet Ronn last night at Jovita's. They put on a great, fun show. Jovita's was cool place to see the show, lots of authentic atmosphere, good food and everyone of all ages was having fun. Ronn, you rock and it was really nice meeting a fellow TB'er (especially a lefty!). I'll post a picture as soon as we catch our breaths. We're trying to hit as many recommendations as possible that you all gave us. :)

LeftyJack, it was great to meet you and your wife, I hope y'all enjoy your time in Texas. Thanks for coming to the show, the crowd was about half of average 'cause we were up against a UT football game, but at least you had a place to sit, usually a rarity there! Can you believe that bald a-hole's antics? I finally had to plant the head of my bass in the small of his back and shove him off the stage. I didn't miss a note. Ha!

Ronn

Ronn, I didn't know if I should bring your "friends" behavior up or not. I have to say you and your mates handled it very, very well. He was quite a distraction and was really invading your space, especially when he jumped up onstage and joinded the Eggmen. I think he thought he was at a RHCP show :eyebrow: You know the old saying..."Just add alcohol.." point proven. We're off to the Continental club tonight which we're looking forward to. Got some ink last night from Jarrod at True Blue Tattoo downtown and he did an awesome job. We are going to try and hit some music store today and do a little exploring.
John

Just a reminder, Bass Emporium is closed Sunday and Monday, when you go, tell John the owner Hi for me, he's a good friend.
Other guitar stores:
Ray Henning's Heart of Texas Music-S.Lamar St. If you've ever watched "King of the Hill", the guitar store owner character is based on ol' Ray.
In the same complex as Ray's there's another guitar shop, Austin Custom Guitars I think it's called.
Just a bit further south on S.Lamar from Ray's is South Austin Music, another great shop, ask for Bill.
Guitar Resurrection is another nice place, just off N.Lamar. Ask for Chuck.
Strait Music is ok, and Musicmakers is someplace I haven't been in in years, but YMMV.

Ronn

Thanks Ronn. We went to South Austin Music, very nice guys and nice selection of some vintage basses, unfortunately right handed only. Did stop by Heart of Texas Music too. They were also very friendly and helpful, they did have a Fender Jazz MIM sunburst lefty which I got a price on and am still thinking about. Around the corner from H of T is the small vintage guitar shop you talked about. Very, very cool selection of vintage guitars and basses (Rics included) but alas not one lefty. Nothing at all left handed at Strait music or Musicmakers but nice guys non the less. Tomorrow I'll try Bass Emporium and Guitar Resurrection. My wife is so cool she even suggested a mini road trip to Houston to go to Southpaw Guitars tomorrow or the next day. She did really like the sunburst Jazz but i wouldn't let her buy it for me. Not yet anyway...
Thanks for the tips, Ill keep ya' all updated.
