I just scored an 8 Ohm Avatar 2x12" w/tweeter cab in great shape from a desperate seller (I actually gave him more than he asked); I'm using a 15" combo now, as we only play PA supported gigs, and want to know what would be a good match headwise. It's rated 500W handling & is surprisingly light at 58 lbs (my combo weighs as much & is half the size!). I play classic rock, motown, and use various Fender J & Ps and an ATK 700. Budget is flexible, but I'm thinking $300 used maybe. GK? Ashdown? Ampeg? SWR? Recommendations? Thanks in advance! :hyper:

GK is what my personal preference is. You could get a used 800RB for about that money. It would drive the Avatar well at 8 ohms and you could add a second cabinet for really loud gigs. I used a GK for lots of classic rock and Motown gigs and it was a good amp for that.

I agree; the GK stuff is reportedly really good. I wish now I'd bought the '89 GK head we took in trade last week at my weekend music store gig. BTW, It's funny, but my wife saw the size of the Avatar cab and instantly started berating me for having to "strain my back (I'm an older guy)," but I invited her to lift the Hartke Kickback 15 and then the Avatar 212, and she could scarcely feel the difference.

Thank you Eagle Moon; good to hear from an owner of the same cab. I'm still scratching my bald head; I've seen the Backline amp. Do you have a case or rack for it, or is it stand-alone like the pix?
