Outdoor gigging is a whole different world. Generally plan on showing up with twice what you do on an indoor stage, or if you don't, expect to hear half of what you normally do. That's just sort of the way it is. Now try your cab again indoors and see what it sounds like, and if you find it surprisingly quiet again...

You are right but I was hoping that this one cab would be enough for outdoors. I can only carry one cab in my Prius when I have my family with me too, which coincidentally is usually the same time I am playing outdoors.

For the record, the TB 153 will fit in the hatchback a Toyota Prius with a little room on the side for amps and whatnot.

Perhaps I was louder than I think. I was told that the bass was loud enough across the street for a local dread to hear we were doing a Marley tune and come see what was happening.

Yes , try to boost the mids a little . I'm with BurningSkies on this one , these cabs are deceptivly loud because the low end stays very tight even though they are putting out a lot of low end that most cabs can't match cleanly . Also if your cab was up on a bench and not on the ground you may have been losing some of your low end that way and that eats up headroom . I use an 8 ohm TB153 with an XLS 1000 bridged and it seems to get pretty darn loud although I haven't used it outdoors yet .

Was your Crown getting close having the red led lights on the display coming on ? If not maybe you can look at your gain stage , maybe your preamp needs some different settings .

Check it out! Just got my pair of 8 ohm 153's with green and brown tolex. Reverse baffle on the top one.

Can't wait, I always wear plugs. I think this is it. Last set up I'll own. I run a svt7pro, so one will run 600w at 8ohms and two will run 1000w at 4. This is going to be insane. Not the lightest cabs with the 3/4 inch ply, but way easier to lug than my 410hlf. I'll get a dolly at the depot tomorrow to roll them around. Dave said this is the first pair ordered with the reverse baffle. I'll have a review soon.

How that working out? I figure one is going to work for rehearsal and bar gigs with my hip hop group, but two will be for the thrash band and outdoor gigs. I have been saving up for a LONG time, getting by on the same OK used gear forever. I figured I'm playing out now every week, and it's time I invested in a nice rig. It's kind of like buying your first new car. I am going to try one at rehearsal tomorrow. Can't wait.

I hesitate to use my single TB153, 4 ohm at my larger club or outdoor gigs. I take my pre/Crown CD XLS1500 bridged @ 8 ohms into a UL410-II for those gigs, no PA support for me. Just not secure enough to run the Avatar cab with that kinda power at those volumes, yet.

I was driving my TB cab fairly hard at a club gig recently w/STM-900. I sorta heard some distortion that did not sound like the tube breakup I can get from this amp. I was diggin in real hard on a particular tune where guiturd really cranks for his solo and I drive hard to keep up with him.

I had the bass knob up around 2:00 at that time. I keep the tweet @ 9:00. So was wondering if maybe that was the 6" mid that was breaking up like that. Wonder when those TB153's with possible bad X-overs mentioned here earlier were discovered to be such. Like the very early released cabs, even recent cabs or what?

I think it was in July. Kinda reading between the lines but I know someone posted something about them being out of crossovers and changing to a more expensive model in mid July. I got my cab early June and replaced the first x-over mid/late June.

They told me the new one is made by Eminence and has a fuse to protect it... In my dislexia I can't remember if they said it would handle 800 or 1200 watts....

Will post some pics of the new and old x-over when I get it... they said it looked different but retrofit with no problem.

I just emailed Dave @ Avatar Speakers to see if he might have a solution. I've only gigged the cab a few times always with the STM-900, P5 w/flats. I've used the cab since and not had that breakup issue much. But now I recall it happened a couple times at a couple louder gigs. Maybe he'll offer a solution.

Anything I might do on my amp settings to avoid my issue? Usually, I keep my mids on the 600 Freq @ about 2:00-3:00, treble 1:00. Or is the cab design just not going to allow for a quick fix on my part? Other times the cab just flows beautifully in other rooms/clubs.

Im with RP. I think your mid might be a little weak. If it was me, Id retrofit the xover and mid out of a fEarful 15/6 and know that your speakers and electronics are bullet proof. If the port or box design ends up being the limiting factor down the road, putting together a fEarful spec box would be an easy choice-you'll already have all the expensive parts.....

Already got a reply from Avatar Co. They want me to remove the back plate and take pics to show them what setup is in my cab. Not sure if there's a cost to me for any replacement/repair, either way I'm willing to work with them.

Just bought this cab this year, like June 3rd, so let's see where this goes. Quick reply with a possible suggested fix; always a plus in my book. :)

I ordered my cab on May 31 and got it June 3rd I'd bet that's the same generation crossover.

Though it's been a bit frustrating Dave and Trevor at Avatar have been totally cool. I held off on calling them for about a month because I thought I was crazy and figured they'd tell me to go fly a kite but when I told him what it was doing he said I'd have my new x-over by the end of the week.
