lol, I was looking at the wrong spec sheet. The Dayton displaces about 83% as much air as the 3015. That makes it worth considering, in my book.

If you go the Dayton route, be sure to post up your build results (and your impressions.) I don't know if anyone else on TB has used those drivers or not but it's always nice to find good value for those with budget limitations.

You might want to start a new thread, or find a thread dedicated to questions about that driver and enclosures. Looks like there are several already in existence.

I'm using my 8 ohm tb153 all the time. I think it gives me a clean slate to lay down my sound. I like the sound of my amp and bass. Cabinets I like transparent. I rarely get the chance to bust out the 2nd for a full stack, but I've recently picked up a pf350 which pairs up nicely.

Speaking of the Dayton woofer when I wanted to build an fEarful to get a smaller , lighter cab , I put one of the Dayton woofers in the cab before I sold it and used the 3015lf in my 15/6 build . The Dayton really sounded good in the TB153 and I couldn't tell much difference in the sound or volume with the Dayton . The only big difference was the weight . The last time I talked with the guy who bought that cab really liked it .

So, the Dayton was crossed over at about ~1.3KHZ? Did you ever experiment with how it sounds full-range? That was my intent with the Dayton, just to run it with no x-over or mid, or tweeter.

So I am having an with my TB153, Im not getting any low end from it. The mid driver sounds fine, but the woofer is silent until I push a more volume through it, then I get a quick burst of low end, and then a distortion on the low end as it fades back out to nothing.
Could this be loose wiring or does it sound like the crossover?
I bought it new in Jan of '11 so I am pretty sure it has the old crossover.

The trouble shooting advice I got from avatar back when I was having trouble with my mid driver acting farty and weird was to pop it out and hook it up to a stereo. He said make sure you turn up slowly but so long as its not distorting doing that then the speaker is good. You can check the wiring after that to make sure that the lugs are tightened down good on the speaker wires, but outside of that I'd only be left to assume it's the crossover.

How does this cab perform with upright bass?
I need something I can double with.
Conventional wisdom is that you need smaller speakers for upright, but does the 15/6 crossover design mitigate this?

I think conventional wisdom is incorrect

The quality of the cab design itself along with well thought out components are all that matter for a great doubling cab. I gig a 15/5/1 enclosure all the time on upright gigs and love it!
