I have a feeling that that's more so for guitarists, what with the removable back plate with an open back on it for swapping out speakers easily, I think that 6" "port" is a bit too big and short to be an effective port. Could just be their version of a "bassman", the amp that was originally made for bassists but guitarists liked better, I've been wrong before though.

I would buy that if it wasn't a "B115" and the page didn't have it listed as a "Bass Cabinet"
They list the speaker options as BN15-400, Eminence 95oz Ceramic, and 3015, 3015LF.

The driver to use would be the 3015. But I have no idea about the port. If it works, though, that might well be Dave's best box..

that has a closed-back option, it seems like if you got the closed-back option, you could squeeze a driver into it, but at approximately 1.87 cubic feet (just some quick math based on external dimensions, with the thickness of the boards factored in, and an extra 3/4" taken off for the grill) you're not going to get much low end out of anything. Just looking at the recommended box sizes for a sealed cabinet posted on their site, it seems like the delta 15LF, kappa 15a, delta 15a, and beta 15a COULD work, not going through WinISD though. I think that they're just offering the bass cab option to perhaps expand potential user base for one product, making the design more efficient. It actually seems that with maybe the beta 15, kappa 15a, or delta 15a/15lf, you might get away with using a 30-50 watt tube amp, and use it for bass AND guitar, or maybe load it with a Jensen 15, it'll get loud enough, but don't expect much lows.

I'm not expecting most of the avatar user-base to know stuff like that - nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the public.

Weirded out indeed. While one would never look to Avatar for cutting-edge cabinet design, this cab would seem to reinforce Avatar's reputation as a guitar-centric, indiscriminate, "throw this speaker into that box and see if it works" kind of dealer. For me, it casts into disrepute the viability of just about every one of Dave's other bass cabs, merely by association. :eyebrow:

I did it for a while, and it worked great if you like a deep, dark, and CLEAN sound. A lot of the artifacts from fuzz and amp OD were lost to the speakers restrained top end, but man, did it have da booty. I briefly ran that cab (Old silver Peavey w/ mattress foam) and a SVT 210 AV as a mini stack, and they sounded quite good together. However schlepability and ease of moving about won out, so I stuck with the ported 410 Neo EBS Classic cab that came with my amp and ditched the 3015LF cab.

I did stack the 210AV on the 410, with the tube head feeding the Ampeg and the DI out to a Mark Bass LM2 powering the 410 as an experiment. It was pretty awesome, but overkill for what I need right now :)

To be fair, lots of people still think like that, and let's face it, a speaker in a less-than-ideal box is still going to make noise, it's just that bassists go for "optimal" tunings, or close to it with a few compromises, in order to tune the low end to the speaker. in the midrange it's still going to sound similar. Dave probably knows what he's doing, and he's going with a perceived market demand.

Like I said, I don't question that Dave knows what he's doing, it's just whether or not the people he's selling to know what they're doing.

Looks like a throwback to the old B112 & C15 or Compact 15 they used to offer back in the day. According to a forsale post I found the dimensions on these were 18x18x15.5. I'm surprised he's not offering a new B112. I found a Compact 15 forsale post (SOLD - Avatar Compact 15 (cube) | TalkBass.com with the dimensions and pics. The old C15/Compact 15 had a single rear port as well. Search for B112 here and it's a blast from the past: Avatar B112 Review | TalkBass.com

I'm gonna get one for my son. I talked to Dave at Avatar some time ago about Bag End. He said he was working on a Bag End S15 clone. And here it is. I don't know why some people gripe about Bag End or this cab. Bag End has been around for decades, installing sound in many venues. I have Bag End cabs. 10s, 12s and 15s. Their stuff completely rocks. Sounds great with bass guitar. Sounds really great with overdrive. Kinda nasal and cuts like crazy. Burpy. I'm not a fan of tweeters. I don't know who makes their drivers. They have a huge magnet with a Bag End sticker on it. Probably Eminence. The port is different, sure. I don't know, but to me, it just works. Might want to put a piece of foam or some other plug in there when it's sitting idle to keep out cats and other vermin. LOL.

Sorry for the zombie post, but if you like it, rock it. Bag end rocks, and so does avatar, I'm just not sure what their aim was with this cabinet.
