Avatar Owner's Club - part 3

After trying a couple other options, looks like a neo B212 is now my standard cab for P&W gigs in a tough room. 270 capacity, hard walls, high vaulted ceiling, moderate volume, standalone (no mains feed). The smooth balance between the bass and the low mids seems to be perfect for the style of music and the room. Also this band wants the bass sort of up front in the mix, and this cab helps, without being as "barky" as my MB15/115MB stack which is what I initially thought would work best. (But thinking more about it, that little stack is sort of impolite-sounding, and probably more suited to heavy dance and rock music.)
So far I've run it with a Backline and with a BDDI -> power amp. Both sounded great, though the BDDI obviously tended toward a more middy/aggressive (almost SVT-like) sound. I think the band preferred that over the Backline. Next time, I'm going to try it with a TH500 with the drive way up to get the slightly "in your face" tone they seem to like.

Last year, I was able to get a couple of used B212 neos; these, run by a BX1500, are way too much fun...
I honestly don't know if I signed up for this club yet. So many clubs (lefthanded stoner ohio worship 7 string bassplayers who drool out of the right side of their mouths 
Anyway I have two 110 cabs and I couldn't be happier. Light, beautiful and the best tone I have ever had.I play 5 string J Basses mostly and tonewise am sort of in that Marcus Miller Alex Al group. That's what the cabinets deliver. Full range, balanced,loud....even one single 10 cab is plenty for a small to medium sized gig. Absolutely the best cabinets I have ever owned and their customer service is second to none.

So, ss that a new SB112 oriented vertically? You didn't say in your post, except that you have "two 110 cabs"...

It's a 112 with regular speakers, not neos. It can handle more power, impedance is 4 ohm.The Eden goes down to 2 ohms.
The cabs are light enough to carry with one hand I love that.I just wish they had only one handle at the top.The would be more practical.
I have two of those cabs. Here is another pic with my Atelier Z and my 74 Jazz.

What year is your Jazz? Looks just like my '74
Right under the truss rod adjustment screw it says 1974. Serial is 543541, 4 bolt neck plate. It could also be 75. I think in that time period there is a bit of confusion because of the transition to 3 bolt necks.
Doesn't really matter to me because I'll never sell that bass.I love it. The Atelier Z sounds almost like it maybe even a little better, which is why that is my main bass.It did take me years of tweaking with it to get it to this point though.

I actually have a TB153 on order (took advantage of the free shipping deal over the holidays). Dave indicated that they were very busy with holiday orders, and they were out of stock of Line-X cabs, so they had to send another production run of them over to the subcontractor who does the coatings. So it will supposedly be ready in another week or so.
I'm looking forward to it. I'm surprised I don't see more of these cabs mentioned in this thread.
My big wish is that they offered the Line-X treatment in different colors listed on the Line-X website. I'd love to see a red or dark blue Line-X coating with black baffle, grill, and corners.

I bought mine new in Dec 1974 for $263 with hard shell case. And it is solid, sweet, and like yours, ain't never gonna sell. Mine is 640242, I know they didn't have any rhyme or reason to the SN back then. Sometime in 75 they started with the bullet truss system then the 3 bolt. Cool set up, I have a SB112 that has been my main box for seveal years with my SWR Studio 220, quite the pair.
I have a TB500 and used a B212neo before I switched to two orange SP212s. The B212neo was well suited to the terror, the 210 may lose some boomyness that is great for the old school tb500 tone.
Well its been about a year since my new set of Avatar cabs and I still love the crap out of these things!!
I initially started with a B212 neo as my first avatar cab hooked up to a Bugera BVP5500 which was a fantastic sound but I yearned for more power and something more modular and portable. Soo that's when I made the decision to sell that entire set-up (Amp sold online and cab was sold to a friend who plays keys and loves it too...plays a Trace-Elliot through it sounds sick)
After I sold it I picked up 2 brand new SB112's in Red Tolex from Dave with the ceramics in it. HOLY CRAPP are they loud and crisp. I thought the neo's were loud but this blows my mind. I'm running a Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.0 through both of them stacked high. I can tell I will be a die-hard Avatar fan for a long time

man, those are beauts. I am looking for a smaller Avatar for some of my jazz and pit orchestra gigs. Seeing this is restarting my GAS for another Avatar...

i'm the proud owner of a B410 Kappa, which i love dearly. it is the ultimate badass - that is the most accurate description i can make of it. regrettably, when i moved from Boston to Seattle i had to leave it at my parents' house in NH (there's only so much room in the ol' station wagon) but i will reclaim it one day. i have never played a cab that inspired such complete confidence. it is indestructible and laughs at your weak interpretation of the word "loud".

Joined the club this past week ... using a single B212 under a PV Max 700. Will be ordering a second one to run larger rooms and outdoor shows unmic'd. I played a 2 set pick-up gig last night with a single guitarist, drummer, and singer, and with a high end Fender tube pre and tube power amp running into the PA for comparison. My observations:
1. From previous trials, I know I can dial in anything thru the Avatar 212 that I can dial on an Eden 410XL cab. Lower notes stayed clear and hi-fi while popped notes stayed sweet and musical. The Avatar equalled the Eden (which is a GREAT cab) in every way using a pair of US made PV SS bass heads, and the Avatar surpasses the 410XL in power handling. I really like 12" speakers for bass.
2. The tweeter has a little hiss, depending on where you set it and depending on amp EQ. I run mine at 9:00 and it's fine. Even at 12:00 you don't really notice it.
3. On the floor, with 475 watts running thru it, the Avatar will flap your pants legs and rattle the building, but it never sounded boomy or mushy. It stayed very clear all the way up the volume scale to stoopid loud. Very crisp and punchy.
4. On top of another cab the Avatar hits you in the chest like a hammer but never gets harsh. Again, it stayed musical all the way up to 7/5 on the Max. She stayed clear and articulate with just a hint of grind on it all the way to ear bleed levels.
5. In a mix with LOUD ASSED musicians the Avatar (unmic'd) was on the floor across from a mic'd Peavey VK 100 stack, and sat perfectly in the mix. It cut right thru after goosing the mids a hair, but stayed very sweet and musical. Never harsh. And this thing thumped massively. I ran the head up till the DDT was kicking in then rolled back my volume pot on the bass and adjusted for each song. The low notes just vibrated the floor but it never boomed or mushed. The band could always tell what notes I hit. Running wide open with the head at 7/5 with active pad off and mids pushed it drown out everything else on stage. I rolled the volume up to do my "Snoopy song" routine and it was earth shakingly loud. But again, never harsh. Always sweet and 'hi-fi'. The popped noted just sang and cut right thru.
6. It is a heavy cab, but not Peavey TVX heavy, and it can be managed by one person. I will trade weight for that 1500 watt handling and the tone any day.
I like the 2x12 cab so much I'm ordering a second one in three weeks or so. A pair of these with 700 watts thru them out to cover anything I will ever do on bass.

I'm finally almost ready to join the club! Ordered a B210 delta about a week ago! And due to the tax return season rush it should **** out today or Monday. It'll be so nice to ditch this old TVX 410 I've been lugging around...
