Avatar Owners Club Pt. 2

Well, maybe there are no Avatar Neo owners on TB in the CA Bay Area , so how about this question:

Any shortscale players using Avatar Neos? Whatcha got? (cabs, head, bass). I'm currently playing a Fender Mustang, and seriously considering a Birdsong 5-string. (I'm also considering trying to tune my Mustang BEAD, to see what happens!)

I'm going for a warm, but defined sound. I've read the Avatar cabs are pretty transparent, and I like what I get with my Ampeg B2R through my Hartke 4x10 . . . My current thinking is to emulate the Hartke set-up by getting a couple of 2x10s. Although 1 of the 2x10s is probably enough for an indoor (usually church or church hall) gig, our other main venue is festivals, and there isn't always PA support, so for outdoor, I'm thinking 4x10 all together (the Hartke did fine for that, last summer).

Any thoughts, O Owners of the Avatars . . .?

I just got an Avatar SB112 neo :

Can I get a number?

I just picked up the "brother" to my 2x10 cab.

When I bought my first 2x10 Avatar, there was another for sale at the time that was being sold with it (these were on consignment at a local shop).

Anyway, money being a little tight, I decided to risk only buying the one and coming back for the other later if it was still available. Weeks went by and I went back and it had been sold. :(

I was in that store last week and the person who bought it brought it back. So, two days later I picked it up and brought it home.ࡎ

What I don't understand is why there seems to be a "factory" switch on the backs of both of these cabs for switching from 4 Ω to 16 Ω on each cab. It makes sense in that I can pair them up with virtually any amp in the known world and get the right Ωs for the job.

Anyone see anything like this on their cabs?

Are you sure it came that way? If it's an older one (before Dave upgraded the crossover), there should be no problems with having the switch there. If it's a crossover with a low pass section to roll off highs to the woofers, the highs will start to roll off from the woofers before the crossover starts bringing in the tweeter.

Is there any audible difference in tone between the 4 ohm and the 16 ohm switch setting (like upper mids sounding scooped in the 16 ohm mode)?

You could always shoot Dave an email message and ask him.

My pair of green tolex 210 Avatar Neos arrived Tuesday! :hyper:

At rehearsal Wednesday, after tweaking the EQ on my Ampeg B2R, my Fender Mustang sounded utterly awesome! I tried playing through just one 210, but much prefer the fuller sound I get with both.

Today they made their performance debut at a local church venue, and we were very pleased!

May I have a number, please? (Since the cabs are currently living at the rehearsal space, I'll have to wait until next Wednesday to post a photo...)

Just came via FEDEX today! I am waiting for my head now, a carvin bx500. This weekend is going to be horrible with a soundless cab. AHHH

Welcome to my world!

I picked up my Peavey Tour 700 head on Monday, and got home, called Dave from Avatar, and ordered my 212. The cab arrived in Winnipeg Canada Thursday, but just about 10 minutes before close time, so they didn't deliver it. Friday was New Years Day, so I couldn't get it then. Saturday Fedex was open until 4:00, the only thing was they wouldn't deliver. I had hockey out of town, and arrived at Fedex at about 4:30, to be told I will have to wait.

My cab will be here tomorrow waiting at home for me when I get home from school. I'm so excited! My first actual rig (Tour 700/Avatar 212), and it's gonna be awesome.

Pics will follow!
