Avatar Owners Club Pt. 2

Hey Gents,

I run a LEJ6 into my SWR 750 with my B210 at my church. Yesterday I really pushed it and it handled 450 watts with no problems. The whole range of the bass sounded great. Everyone thought it was a 4x10. I decided to save for another B210 because they are soo cool and light weight. Smokin CABS!

It's an Eminence LA6-CBMR, which is a sealed-back driver, meaning I didn't have to build a seperate enclosure for it.

Yeah, so far as I know, he's never offered an 18" as a cab, blank or otherwise. This is a bummer, cause I bet it'd sound great, whilst simultaneously sucking the souls out of any mobile DJ who happens to get caught in its omnidirectional booms...

takin' the plunge! i just won a near-new sb112 on ebay,and am really looking forward to hearing it plugged into my markbass cmd121p combo. 500 watts total w/the extension cab,should be naahhcce!
EDIT- got the cab friday,gigged with a loud guitar and drum trio saturday-very nice-seemed like a natural extension of the sound i was getting with the combo soloed,just fuller. i would have liked to have had another mb cabinet,but this ended up costing me less than half of that. ($220)

Yes the SB112 is a great cab. I use it for most all my small to medium gigs with a SWR Studio 220 or SWR PB200. Also have a SWR original Redhead in amp only configuration and it is sweet too with the SB112.:bassist:

stupid question for folks running 2 SB112's: how would you say the output of 2 SB112's is compared to, say, a single 212 or 410? i've been considering their 212 or 410, but the more i peruse the Avatar site (and keep seeing all these sweet pics of nice, portable 112 stacks), i'm wondering how a couple 112's would stack up under 250w (always upgradable) or so in a country/covers situation?

Thought I'd post a picture of my three Avatar cabinets . The TB153 is my newest cab and I love it .

The two 112 cabs have been used for PA cabs for a few years . They had some Peavey horns in them but a couple months ago I put some waveguide horns with Selenium D210ti drivers in them and a crossover from the Audiokarma web site . It was developed by some very smart guys for modifying home speakers to get some crazy good sounding cabinets with a waveguide and the Selenium drivers . My cabinets have Eminence Delta pro 12s in them and work great for bass and also make awesome pole mount PA cabinets . It's pretty cool that the Avatar cabinets are big enough to put horns like this in them , make a great full range speaker .

I haven't A/B'd my 2-112's with a 212 or 410, but I've owned both configs in the past, and my current setup (700RB-II> (2)SB112's)doesn't leave me wanting in the volume department. It's also nice to only have to take one cab to practice, and, hopefully, smaller gigs.

Yes I did . I just had bought it from TB member JNewmark and I thought it might be a good upgrade . It's an 18sound horn/lense and it fit on the baffle so I put it in . Sounds very nice although I have to turn it way down the balance it with the mid . I probably could have left the Foster horn in and been happy .

I almost had a deal lined up with someone locally, my Neo 212 for their Mesa Powerhouse 410, but it fell through. At first I was a little disappointed because I really wanted the Mesa, but i was playing the other day, and I'm really happy with my Avatar. They really are great cabs.

I would've bought an identical 212 yesterday if the prices didn't go up :/.

I bought an Avatar B115H a few years ago. Had the 212 been available at that time I would have favored that as the overall tone is good without a horn. I since have put an Eminence KappaLite LF 15" Neo in it and love the good low end but I had to make a small custom cab for a 6.5" 18 Sound speaker to get the full range of tones. I actually made the custom cab to house to Eminence Pro 85 watt RMS horns with very heavy magnets and ran it from the Tweeter output amp on my GK 700 RBII. While ok sounding it just didn't sound as sweet because the Tweeter amp starts at 5Khz. I put the 6.5" speaker in it with a crossover at 900hz and found I didn't need the Horns so I removed them to lower the weight and packed them away. I use the spare space to hold cables and the crossover. The only thing that would be better is to have one cab for both speakers which I will attempt at a later date. Glad you came to your senses. ;)

Although this is maybe the wrong forum, the Avatar 112 cab has been my go-to for upright bass for the last year with a GK 400RB. [BTW, the GK has a very high input impedance so you can go straight from a piezo pickup into it without another preamp!] I've gotten tons of complements on the warmth and naturalness of the tone from the house out front on small to medium-sized shows. For bigger things, I put my Avatar 210 on top and the combination is terrific. For the record, I've used a lot of other cabs over the years: Ampeg, Eden, etc. and even own an Acoustic Image Contra with extension speaker and this 112 is my fave.

I've got an Avatar 112/210 combination also. I take my Eden 210XSTs to gigs because they are a little smaller, but I don't necessarily think they sound any better.
