I love my 2 112s more every time I gig. I've even had other bands use my gear and it sounds great out in the audience. No complaints about lack of volume or low end, it just sounds great.

I did give it some thought, but I already have a pair of 12"s (loaded with carvin PS12 PA drivers), and love the sound of them--they're great for my trio in small rooms, but are not nearly loud enough for my more rock quartet (basher drummer + AC30 + 2nd guitarist = lotsa loud), nor large rooms without PAs.

So a craigslist find of a blonde neo 2x12" avatar made me rethink the space issue. I bought the 2x12, and am thinking of trying a 2x10 on top of the 2x12.
thoughts so far in the brief time since this morning when I picked up the cab on my way into work. I also jammed a bit before work using this with a very loud drummer friend.
-this thing is nice and light for the size (larger than my swr, but about 40lbs lighter). Totally manageable.
-the tone is very good. Maybe a little tubby in the low end, but a good, full-range sound.
-output seems a lot lower than it should be. I had my amp cranked, and was unable to compete with the drummer (small, deadened studio). May have been the borrowed bass with dead strings though, hard to say.
-I'm getting a bit of grill rattle at high volumes. Any suggestions about taming that?
I'd love any input from the 2x12 owners here that can comment on the efficiency of this cab relative to, say the 4x10 golliath I've got would be great.
I figured the output would be a bit less given the lower surface area of the drivers, but I'm surprised it's this much less.

I played around with the 2x12 yesterday a bit more...
I ran it side-by-side with the swr 4x10, which is definitely louder (it's got around 30% more speaker area, so that might have something to do with it)...the Avatar has a more 'hi-fi' sound than the swr, but breaks up earlier. With some EQ work, I can get the cabs to sound very similar. Running both speakers together sounds really impressive in that wall-of-sound kinda way.
overall, it's a nice sounding cab, but I think it's going to need a bit more help getting over the drummer and the AC30, maybe a 2x10 on top will be the ticket...I'm going to try the avatar and swr together at the next rehearsal and see where that lands me. If it's what the doc ordered, I may throw a 2x10 on top and try that for a while.

I do believe these cabs need a break-in of several hours before they can be pushed. Play thru them more and you will probably get more output after a while.

I have a question for you guys. Im working my butt off right now to get some cash for another orange tolex Avatar. Would you recommend a 410 or 212 to go with my 210 for funk/R&B/smooth tones.

Anyway, fast forward to 2009, I recently bought an empty Compact 15 which I filled with a Carvin/Eminence 15 given to me by Eli and will take delivery of a B210 Neo on Monday (assuming that Brown's estimated delivery date is accurate).
The photo of my Compact 15 (or C15 as it was called) is on my laptop and I'll post it later.

I'd say the 2x12, you have the 210 for the higher freqs and the 2x12cabs (not specifically avatar, but the others i have tried) are just bassy goodness with some punch to 'em. Paul Turner with Jamiroquai has the 2x10 and 2x12 set up with his aggies and his sound is nothing short of spectacular! I'd do a 8ohm 2x10 with a 4ohm 2x12 so it gets a little more juice, just gonna be kinda tough to get a head that runs with a 2.6 load...
Check out a Carvin, most will do 2 ohms so 2.6 is no sweat. Carvin's get love here on TB and are good amps. Genz Benz also has amps that will do 2 ohms. My GBE-1200 will do 2 ohms all night long and doesn't even get hot.
Very true, however everything that runs at a 2ohms load gets a little pricey except the Carvins, which I hear nothing but great reviews for.

I've been playing a hartke ha4000 through hartke cabs (410 and 115) as a hobbyist for over 13 years (and a peavey combo for the decade before that). i've really enjoyed the clarity, punch, and power (or what i THOUGHT was power) of that rig... until some friends and i started jamming... and the volume wars began (yes, i'm old enough to know better, but it is kind of fun). i was pushing my rig too hard, and wanted to keep it in good condition, so i just bought my first Avatar (but not last)... the neo 410 (8 ohm). Then i picked up a gk1001rbII and can't believe what i've been missing all these years. Now i'm in the quandry of whether to buy the 212, another 410, or perhaps even a 210. we play primarily classic rock, and my main rig is an ibanez 5 string, and am fairly partial to 5 strings for future guitar purchases. any suggestions? And what does it take to get a number around here?! Also, has anyone tried to configure the gk biamping feature to be used w/ avatar's horns? Thanks!!!!

As to which cab to add, I'll let the others chime in on that...but from what I've read combining a 2x12 with the 4X10 gets a best of all worlds tone.

I seem to recall this subject coming up years ago. The real trick is to be able to bypass the passive crossover in the Avatar cabinet. If you'll only use the cabinet with the GK head, that's easy. If you want to be able to use it with other amps, that'll be more difficult.
