I'll be joining your ranks soon...my first club.

I'm picking up Laredo's two blue 210s, to hook up to my GK 1001-RBII. Anybody have experience with that set-up?

Right now I have my GK 1001RB-II on a B410 NEO that I just got last friday and so far
It sounds killer! I saw those blue cabs too and they look awesome.
My guess is that you will love those with your GK.

holy crap! grill cloth! Do you think I'd be able to buy just the grill cloth from them? I love my white cab, I just HATE that steel grill!

nope he won't sell them. I emailed him this week and he replied that each cab is measured and framed out separately. However you could build a frame yourself and go to MoJo musical supply to get the cloth therefore making one yourself.

My new rig incarnation, sold off my B212 and purchased another SB112. Use one for home and one for practice and both for gigs. Sound awesome alone and even better paired up. Also I'd like to plug my NeoPak at this time, really an incredible little amp.

I just got my Avatar B212 this morning in Alaska and it ROCKS!! I got it hooked up to my GK 1001RB-II and it just sings, nice'n crisp and it holds up remarkably well to loud volumes (though I haven't pushed her too hard yet :) and it is just sound as a bell.
Got her in blonde tolex to and it lookin sharp:cool: All the other "local bands" will fear my rig as I bring righteous slapping (and finger playing of course) to the overpopulated metalcore scene of Alaska!! :bassist: HaHaHaHaHa!! God, this feels good.

Well, after about a day of straight playing I've got a question. After playing it for a few hours on and off, I decided to see about how much my cab can take. I use a Gallien-Krueger 1001RB with my Avatar 2x12 and had the bass at noon and had the gain and woofer at about noon and what I dicovered was that at about half volume (around there) the cabinet started gettin farty sounding.
I was kinda perplexed a little bit because, the cabinet is 500watts RMS and the head only puts out 460watts @ 8ohms. About half of that started makin the cabinet sound funny then. So like 230-300 watts or so was making the cabinet sound funny as far as I can see. Now for you GK 1001RB users (I know your out there) and other folk, is it natural for a cabinet to start doing that at that volume? I was just expecting it to start sounding funny when I had the power level close to the cab's RMS. This is kinda my first experience of really driving a cabinet hard so any insight will be really great. Thanks.

One comment I have to make is that it takes a while for a speaker to "break in" when it's new. Just like a new car. They don't recommend pushing it too hard for the first 1000 miles or so. Same with a speaker. I'm in a hurry to leave right now or I'd comment on your amp settings. Maybe somebody else can chime in in the mean time?

We find the limits of our cabinets much more from excursion limits than by the wattage rating, and that is what you are hearing.

12" loaded cabinets are light, especially when you get them with neodymium drivers. They provide a sound that many people really dig, too. The downside, at least when compared to a 410 cabinet (and I make this comparison because a 212 and a 410 are often priced and positioned very similarly) is that the 212 has much less total speaker surface area - 226 square inches versus 314 for the 410 cabinet, or about 28% less.

With all else constant, you will find the excursion limits of the speakers in a 212 cabinet before you find them with a 410. It's the nature of the compromise.

The speakers need some time to break in. As fas as wattage goes, well that's just a rating from the manufacturer as to what they say the cabs will take.

Real world is another thing. You could blow the drivers with just a 100 watts if you push it to distortion and overheat the voice coils. The same with a 1000 watts, you can run too much power into it and "over extend" the cones by popping them too far forward and killing the suspensions.

If you're playing loud rock, metal, death metal, or any other type of hi intensity music and you're up against 100 watt full or 1/2 stacks and the guitars are cranked, and you don't have big PA support..... IMO as a 30+ year player is that a single B212 NEO is NOT going to be enough cabinet. Like I said, that's just my opinion, others may or may not agree. I went for the 410 NEO as I think a 410 is a great all around cabinet. You could always add another single 15, 212, or 210 along with your B212 and gain some extra headroom and punch.

I use a B410 NEO with either a GBE1200 or a GK 1001RB-II and it can get pushed at times to the point of almost farting out. I do three piece with guitar using 100 watt Marshall 1/2 stack and most times it's OK. If I need more, I add an extra Ampeg 410HLF along with the Avatar.

Haven't gigged with the B410 yet but it seems to do pretty good at rehearsal and we practice loud.

The farting out sound you mention is a good indication that you're right on the edge so to speak of what the cab will do with your current settings.

Let us know your exact settings on the GK and we'll see if we can get you dialed in better. Sometimes just a small tweak here and there on the EQ can work wonders in overall output on a given cabinet.

Let us know.

From left to right: I have my contour @ 12:00, pressence @ 12:30-1:00, treble @ 12:00, high-mid @ 12:00, low-mid @ 1:30-2:00, bass @ 11:00-12:00, boost @ 12:00 and woofers @ 12:00; and I have the master volume at about half.

Sweet rig, Bass-Flyer!

Thanks!
Smaller gigs a just use the 1x12, sometimes just the 2x10. Even at some smaller gigs, I like the sound of the TWO cabs together.
I usually use my Carvin R1000, but since I got my old GK400B fixed, I use it at times. With the two cabs (8ohms each) I get the full 250 watts, and at small to medium size gigs, that's all I need.

I find that the Avatar cabs don't like the bass EQ cranked up. Try bass around 10 o'clock low mids around 2 o'clock and dial down the hi mids and treble to taste. Also check to make sure that all the speaker screws are tight, though that would be more of a rattle then a farting sound. Also make sure your output boost isn't too high, especially if you play an active bass.

Here’s my new B410 NEO cabinet. Just got it yesterday. So far I'm impressed. Can't wait till the speakers get broken in. Future GAS is to add the B212 NEO along with it. The Purple tolex looks way better in person than the picture shows. My camera makes it look too bluish.

OOOO you bastard....you just had to go and show me your new cab with the new grills haha. I saw those on Avatars site a few weeks ago and i emailed Dave to see if i could just buy the grills since i bought a new 410 back in February, but he said the dimensions are different so it wouldnt work. Looks sick tho. Also i like the color, on their site it didnt look very appealing, but looks great on your cab.

I'd say also turn down the countour. That's scooping the mids and boosting the lows, so while you have your bass at halfway, it's actually putting out more bass than that.

Also you may want to check if the 5 string button is down. That puts out a big boost in the low low end.

Also +1 to the speakers breaking in. And you can always add another cab since yours is 8 ohm.

OK let me start by saying that if you're getting a tone that you "really" like right now but it's a case of it's not just loud enough, you may have reached your maximum with that combination. If so, you need to consider adding another cabinet. Just make sure you don't go below 4 OHMS.

The farting you hear might "not" be the cab. It could be coming from the front end of your GK. Is your bass active? Maybe the pre is being overdriven. Even if passive it might still be in front end. Try backing off the channel gain and boosting the master volume a bit and backing off the "boost". I don't use the boost on my GK as I don't like the tone of it. Plus it really does add alot of gain so you might need to back off the input channel gain. 12:00 seems like a lot of boost to me. But like I said, I don't use it so maybe it's not too much.

I would start with all the tones flat, NO contour, no presence,no boost, channel gain at 12:00 AND MASTER AT 0. Cab tweeter at half way. I want you to start off clean no boost just to make sure the front end isn't causing the fart. Start bringing up the master to see if you can get the cab up to the volume you were at before when it was farting. If you can get it louder and it sounds clean, it could have been the boost was too high. If you bring up the countour, remember it boosts lows and highs, cuts mids. You may have to "cut" lows on the tone knob if you crank the countour. I would cut lows to about 10 or 10:30 anyways as the NEO cabs like mids better. I would boost low mids and upper mids slightly, treble and presence to your taste. Check the 4/5 string switch on the contour it will add lows if set on 5 string and you're using a 4 string. If you add a lot of boost, you'll have to back off tone controls, mostly lows again to compensate for the added gain.

It's a trade off. If your cab won't take the full range of tone the way you like it and have it set, you have to make choices. Usually you find a happy spot somewhere in the middle.

Sometimes you never know till you get it onstage. I've had tones that I thought sucked at the house, and then playing live cut through like a hot knife through butter. IMO the power to cut through the mix rests mainly in the low mids 250K to high mids 1K area. What some call the "honk tone" area. However used properly, those freq's can get your tone up front and still sound full and fat in the stage mix. Mega lows are best handled by the PA.

This quote says it all. I still think it's a case of just not enough cabinet for the music you want to play. If you are running the cones to full excursion, you will become friends with Avatar's warranty department.

Just wanted to post up my current settings using my GK1001RB-II with my B410 Neo. Maybe it might help the OP.

Cab tweeter at 12:00 using a MIM P bass special with USA P/J PU's passive. RotoSound RS66 Swing Bass 45-105.

Input volume 12:00, contour 1:00 5 string switch engaged, presence 12:00, treble 3:00, hi-mid 2:00, low mid 1:00, bass 11:00, no boost (I use a Fulltone Bassdrive), master vol right now at just over 10:00. The cab is plenty loud and even with the master up to 12:00 the rig is still clean and punchy. I have about 6 or 7 hours of time on the cab so far and I can already tell it's starting to loosen up a bit. The OP's settings are almost where I'm at but I run more highs than he does and he's using boost. Maybe the boost is causing his tone to be farty?

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

The purple is really a much more subdued color on the actual cabinet. My camera actually makes it look more blue than it is.

I wasn't sure if I'd dig it because in the picture on the website it looks very bright but the cab looks fantastic and I would recommend that color combo to anyone.

Why don't you just make your own frame and order some cloth from any of the aftermarket suppliers out there. Possibly Dave could supply you with the Avatar logo he uses on the cloth cabs. That would be very cool.
