My 4 string (semi-hollow walnut/mahogany/walnut) weighs about 9 lbs.

My 5 string (solid core cocobolo/maple/mahogany/maple/cocobolo) weighs a smidge over 13 lbs

My 6 string (solid body maple top on alder) weighs about 9.5 lbs

I've been doing a study on the average bass weight and I found out that I cannot conduct experiments very well. How much does your bass weigh?

I just finished building a Bass for my daughter, Mahogany channeled body with Maple neck and Ebony Fretboard, Aguilar 3 channel EQ, HBabicz Bridge, Hipshot Ultralight Tuners 7.7 Lbs

I have a Fender Mustang PJ that weighs in at 7.8 pounds, and a Ric 4003W that weighs in at 9 pounds. Long scale basses I guess would average about 9 pounds.

Yeah, but since the thread has been bumped, I'm in. Couple of weeks ago I bought a Crescent P-bass clone off a pawn shop wall, a bass that retails for under $100. Why? It was light; it felt like my Danelectro Danoblaster/Rumor. Both tip my digital bathroom scale at seven pounds even. I'm thinking, "Wow! I've got to get some more of these Crescents." So I scored a used one off eBay.

It arrived this morning. It weighs 9.4 pounds.

... there are some generalizations that can be made about some models, brands, weights, etc., but every piece of wood is likely different ... then take into consideration that unless a scale is calibrated, there can be a difference in readings, as well as weighing methods used ... I have bought basses that have shown up substantially different than listed, both lighter and heavier, some even over a pound, and some even here on TB ... a pound + might not sound like much, but there is big difference between buying a 7 1/2 lb bass because of its light weight, and it shows up closer to 9, or even an 8 1/2 lb bass that shows up at 9 1/2 .... just something to take into consideration whenever discussing weights ...

FWIW, I have found the Sweetwater weights to be spot on every time I have bought from them .. they list their bass weights on the site ... OP may want to consider studying their site for references ...
