If you show up self-contained, with an appropriate amp for the project and strong acoustic sound mic-the bass should be fine. ...[t]he most I ever like doing is letting them mic the amp.

But playing with a mic is not always possible. Especially not in bars or smaller stages. When it gets loud a mic will cause too much feedback and problems. In that case what do you do? I don't think you can do without a DI (before the amp) in most situations. Especially not in fusion stuff.
That's similar to the negative and uncharitable views expressed about this community in this thread.
I just have never seen TB that way. As I posted in that earlier thread:
So a more focused, on topic answer:
Keep sound-people away from your amp, no DIs or anything. Only let them mic the bass. etc.
So what then, you've got a folder on members you don't like. That's no secret if a member has been around here for any length of time. You do seem to enjoy pulling punches like this given any opportunity
And you have proven my point.
I think you have proven my point! I respectfully disagreed with your point of view and you have characterized my post along the lines of those you perceive as being made with a "clenched fist."
"Pulling punches like this?" No punch was pulled. (Perhaps you misunderstand the meaning of that idiom.) I stated my point of view that I just don't see TB the way you do. My assessment was and is that your view is negative and uncharitable. No punch pulled there, Jamie.
A folder on members I don't like? Wow. No, I simply am able to remember older threads. Continuing not to pull any punches, this is typical of your reaction to discourse when points of view are expressed that disagree with your own. It's not a conspiracy; it's not some unwillingness to listen. It's simply a different point of view and/or assessment.

Les, I truly love the "ignore" function on TBDB. (Rhetorical question) Why waste time talking with people who, for one reason or another, do not want to have have a pleasant conversation, typically appear to have a perpetual chip on their shoulder and/or just have an overwhelming desire to snipe at others because it possibly makes them feel better about themselves?
There are many talented, smart, funny & wonderful guys who contribute so much to this forum. I have learned so many things that I didn't previously know and I'm pleased to be a part of this motley crew. I choose to spend my TBDB time with these kinds of people as well as others who join this site with open hearts and similar gifts to share.![]()
Using an amp for a solo like that is kind of odd, even in a big hall.
Treyzer: "It's dead, Jim"
drub: "It's over, Spock"

I believe you can, at least everywhere you have access to a PA. Monitor yourself with a PU and a bass amp (even if it doesn't sound right to you), send the mic to the PA system and turn down any other offers from the soundman. If you are reasonably far away from the monitors intended for your band mates and if you place your own amp correctly, you should be fine.
Enough man with your annoyance
Yep-- good advice.

Yep. Exactly.
This kind of stuff is the reason there aren't any good discussions here anymore. It just expected that someone is going to swoop in and poop on a thread. Too bad. I learned tons from this site.
Holy ****. Enough dick waving, IMO.
I've heard MR PC play (under his real name, of course).
I'm not impressed.
We've all heard alotta talk from DRUB (Les), who usually keeps his remarks to the Basses Forum, with good reason.
I'm not usually one to ask some proof of expertise from members, but really, Les.....can we hear you play sometime?
