Avoustic 370 nasty noise

I have an Acoustic 370 head on the bench and it's making nasty noises with no appreciable output. There is a burnt looking item on top of the board where the eq controls are mounted.
I have no idea what it is. There are no visible burns or loose components anywhere.
Identifying what that brown blob of coil is would let me find one and replace it.

that part was discontinued more than 20 years ago. it was made by artted. I have tried to locate and acquire them for the last 10 years but to avail. i have the schematic to the amp and made pedal versions of the preamp and poweramp.
if you take a picture of the whole circuit board and show it's location i can tell you what value of inductor it is.
 
Looks like it was repaired snd it is indeed burnt cause the other ones on the board don't look like this one

Now that you say it, it does look someone did some surgery to reattach the coil leads to the solder post and put some RTV on them to hold things in place.

That said the noise issue is most likely caused by something else.
What is the noise, hum, hiss, snapping and popping?

A very small part of electronics troubleshooting is visual; most of the time it's of 0% value. The most likely responses will end up being "take it to a tech" because there's no way even the best of amp techs can tell you what's wrong by your description. It's the equivalent to asking your mechanic about your car is running rough and it has several new scratches & door dings; what could it be? He'd tell you to bring it in. If he guessed at the problem, he would probably also say it could be any of a dozen things. It could probably be three dozen things causing noise in your amp. A tech can eliminate a large number of those in a few minutes and start closing in on the cause……if he has the amp, but probably can't eliminate any by reading your post & viewing the pics.
 
The inductor can be measured with an LCR meter, but as others have said, not likely your problem.
You need to isolate "un needed" stuff. This will take some technical knowledge.
 
Not intended as an insult, but if you aren't able to identify the components on a circuit board, you might be over your head in attempting a repair. I had many years of electronic repair in the military and I won't touch my gear anymore. I made the mistake of trying and failing to repair an old TV, only to bring it to someone that did TV repair before he joined the service. He let me know that the tv was in a condition that made it unsafe for even an experienced technician to work on and that I was lucky I didn't electrocute myself. He refused to fix it and showed me where an insane voltage was being generated. Probably 10 times what should have been there.

Life is short. Why make it shorter.
 
Just tossing this out there... you're probably looking at one or more of:
- dry capacitors needing replacement
- broken/intermittent connections
- potentiometers and switches needing significant internal cleaning and/or replacement
- Power supply (huge capacitors, diodes, transformer(s)) with issues due to sitting around...

so yea there's a lot to test. and testing and experience knowing what and how to test are the main thing to do at this stage... you could learn, but it's a lot of learning.... and time... and possible user error
