don't give a flying f*** about the who or anything jaco pastorius was part of but i know that he, and john entwistle are both manic bassists. :bassist:

i also agree with tye zimora of AAF, and sam river of limp bizkit. but honestly, i think the guys from limp are actually pretty creative (minus the turntable guy and of course....fred durst!)

Great thread! So many good ones that I totally agree with. Nu-metal sucked but definitely brought out some great players. Geddy Lee has great style and tone and gets bonus props for singing at the same time, but I never got into Rush either. Same with Tool, that line in Schism is epic.

A couple that I haven't seen mentioned yet:
Chris Squire in Yes - Does anyone actually like Yes?
Sting's solo stuff - I liked the Police, and he really stepped up his playing and musicality when he went solo, but I can't really get into the music
Jesse Keelor from Death From Above 1979 - They did some really cool stuff with just bass and drums but I find it hard to listen to
Steve Harris with Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden was always a little too cheesy for my tastes, but he rocks and gets points for composing most of their catalogue
Tony Levin - Can't get into King Crimson, but a lot of his session stuff is brilliant. I love the little fills in Robbie Robertson's "Somewhere Down the Crazy River"
Rocco Prestia in Tower of Power - Tight as balls

I think the crux of the matter is that there great music and crap music! That is independent of the fact one may or may not like the great music. E.G. every one recognises the greatness of Bach Mozart and van Beethoven, but the are not all liked universally!

One good example is Clapton said of Prince, love him or hate him he's a musical genius! In fact I think He's a great Bass player and Guitarist, but I can't take more than 10 minutes of him!

That's a good one and not easy to admit. I've never heard anyone get the groove to that awful Dancing Queen quite right.



Other examples --

Victor Wooton.

Jaco with everyone besides WR.

The bassist in a band called Furioso. He's ungodly, but the music is unlistenable.
