Axe-Fx Ultra Sound Clip Requests?

I've had my Axe-Fx Ultra for a few days now and it's totally blowing my mind. It's definitely replacing all of my amps and effects and I'm not really missing them at all. There's only a small quantity of bass clips out there, but I was able to try this thing out before I bought one.

Here's a super quick one I just threw down. It's been a busy weekend but definitely lots more to come soon.

This is a really simple Fender Bassman patch that I've started on. This clip is with my Peavey Dynabass (Super Ferrite pickups) strung with DR lo-riders. I have the bridge pickup full on and no neck, tone full on.

It starts off with a hard knee studio compressor model with a pretty quick attack/release, generous threshold, and modest ratio. The uncompressed signal is mixed in about 25% and then that gets fed to the "blues amp" model.

I did some research on cap values, eq curves, etc. for the Bassman and changed some settings on the model. I also lowered the high-cut frequency and dialed in some "warmth" and "thump" from the power amp model.

I cranked the preamp drive to about 12:30 and blasted the master. Then, I turned down the output level (cool that you can do that) before sending it to a 4x10 cab model in mono high resolution mode. There's no mic on the cab but I dialed in just a touch of speaker drive.

The cab output goes to a 5-band parametric EQ. I used a high-pass shelf at 45 Hz, bumps at 115 and 1.2k, notch at 502 and, and low-pass shelf at 4.5k. Sounds pretty good to me so far. It was surprisingly easy to dial in tight lows and low-mids with the bridge pickup soloed.

There's no post-editing on the patch at all. This is just bass->Axe-Fx Ultra->sound card.

Yeah the SVT is pretty much spot on through the 8x10 cab. It's also really fun to use a crossover and split around 400, sending the highs to a 4x10 and the lows to a 1x15. I think there will definitely be a new bass amp model in the new firmware update. So far, I haven't really needed one though. You can really easily tweak the guitar models to sound great on bass.

The one thing that the Ultra is lacking is a really brutal fuzz like a Wooly Mammoth. I've found some workarounds for synth sounds though. If you put gates before and/or after your dirt and fiddle with the bias setting, you can get really clean fuzz sounds. It also works well to treat a dirt box->amp model as the fuzz sound that you use before a filter. With all drives cranked all over the place you can get some heinous nastiness going to your filter.

I've also had some luck with stacking detuned saw waves using the synths and then mixing those together with some kind of octave->fuzz->filter combo. I was working on a sound earlier that was basically octave->muff->mesa to start. Then I had two pairs dual detuned saw waves with no processing (4 oscillators). I mixed those together and ran that through a detune effect (from the 2nd pitch section) to get a really wide saw sound. I sent all of the saws to an envelope triggered LPF with a base frequency of about 800 that could trigger up to about 2.2k with a really hard stroke. I also sent a copy of that signal and mixed that with the oct->fuzz->filter combo and then sent that signal to a different LPF with base frequency of 100 Hz. I put a little chorus on the higher filter and a really low-depth tremolo to give some motion to the lower filter. Put each channel through a parametric EQ and voila... super touch responsive deep synth bass sound.

I saw a few posts on their forum stating that the tuner doesn't work all that well on bass. How well does the tuner work on this thing? I am just assuming that the tuner is tracking the same input that any pitch models would so, if the tuner doesn't track as well down low, the pitch models wouldn't track as well either. Any issues with pitch tracking? Can you compare it to any of the pedals that you've had?

I'd be interested in understanding why it could track well in models but not in the tuner, if that is the case.
