Double Bass Azola EUBs Megathread

Just a quick note...

A friend of mine plays a beautiful Marchetti-inspired bass and uses Spiro solo strings tuned down to standard pitch. He gets just about the prettiest, melodic tone I've ever heard.
I had inquired in another thread about the viability of such an approach on an EUB, specifically my Azola BugBass II, and a VERY kind fellow forum member sent me a set of used solo Pirastro Perpetuals he was no longer using (another huge thank you to @bherman ). I've had them on the bass ever since and they've completely changed the entire instrument for me.
Just finished another hour and a half practice/playing session, playing through a Genzler Acoustic Array Pro with all settings flat and a bit of very short tail reverb. It sounds so good and feels so good that not once did my mind wander from the musical goals at hand into the realms of "For an EUB this is pretty good, but it still doesn't feel or sound like a 'real' instrument" or "I miss playing a real upright."
I'm not saying that it PERFECTLY emulates and reproduces a fine upright bass' sound, but it's so good with these strings that, really, the differences have been minimized enough that they are not a distraction nor do they detract from the joy of playing. I wish I could say the same thing about the plethora of sampled grand pianos out there....I hate playing them all.
I love this bass. Still would love to check out one of the hollow body models. Anyone have one within shouting distance of central NYS?

Nah, I'm not cool enough to play jazz....

My Azola Ultra Baby Bass ( Hollow) has a 39 1/2” scale..Can Anyone Help me? And suggest some nice feeling strings with lower tension and versatility for both pizzicato and arco playing? I recently bought these their brand new but too long for my Bass.. I’ll trade for a shorter scale or sell them outright
Thanks in advance!

I have an Azola Gypsy (34" scale EUB). In a freak accident I managed to fracture one of the clamping devices, pretty much ruining the telescoping end pin. Any possibility of getting a replacement or some after-market accessory that might work? I've jury-rigged it with hose clamps, but as you might expect, the end pin is not a pretty sight. Would love to hear any brilliant ideas.

Sorry, I should have posted photos.

First two photos show the broken clamp.

The third photo shows the second clamp, which is unbroken and working correctly.

The fourth photo shows the full telescoping end pin.

The final photo shows the screw assembly that attaches the body of the bass.

Again, I am looking to replace or repair this damaged end pin for an Azola Gypsy (34" scale EUB).

Did you try Superglue on the broken clamp?
That endpin system is different than the one I had on my old BugBass, sold 25 years ago.
I didn't try superglue. I discovered when I used the hose clamps that a lot of pressure is required to keep the telescoping end pin from collapsing. I decided superglue probably wouldn't be strong enough. Thanks!

Putting some rubber, like a piece cut from a bicycle inner tube, inside a hose clamp gives a very secure grip. I’ve done it with a double bass endpin.

Happy New Year to the Azola group!

Just an FYI link to my ad - in case anyone is interested in purchasing a nice clean Azola Bug Bass II - handmade in California USA.
