B string clarity

I usually detune to my black beauties with my bart electronics A but I want know does the clarity come more from the string, pickups or amp? When I tune down to A I an hear the difference but when listening in a mix it's all muddy and has more boom than definition.

Lower tension will hinder upper harmonics/transients. If the harmonic content you want isn't coming off the string in the first place everything else you do is trying to give you what isn't really there - or at least not as there as it could be.

The kicker with EQ is that in trying to fix your B string you are going to affect every other string on your bass.
