B string on a sadowsky?

What do you think of the neck ?, i think in 93 they still had the very flat necks.

Obviously, scale length is the most important factor. But I have built "essentially" identical instruments with the same strings and set-up, and string tensions can vary. This is even more noticable on guitars where string bending is common. After 34 years of building guitars, I still do not have solid explanations for some of the subtle aspects of string tension.

When you adjust the trussrod the scale length changes, not an inch, but enough to be noticed regarding tension.

I'm glad someone finally admits that they don't have all the answers! Hey, I figure it either works or it doesn't. Sadowsky basses seem to work, so why change a good thing :)

Yeah, what he said. I bet this has more to do with the materials of the anchor points and the entire bass. When I pluck notes on my MTD B string, some cause the body to vibrate more. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Point taken.

That’s why different basses with the same scale length and same strings have different tension.

Not if you intonate your bass properly. Two basses of the same scale length that are not intonated properly do not have the same scale length heheh. Intonate them, and they should be identical, barring any construction differences in twelth fret placements :)
 
I have owned a Warwick FNA5 (34") a Lull M5V (35") and now a Sadowsky Metro 5 and an Fbass 5 string fretless. I notice a difference between all of these B strings. My F bass and Lull had the best sounding B strings IMO. I use the same strings on all basses. (Club Bass Platinums) The Warwick had a really clear/tight sounding B string and I didn't mind it at all. My Sadowsky's B string still sounds amazing, and sounds more in tune with the rest of the strings tone wise. It doesn't have the same thundering yet clear tone of the Lull but is still 100% acceptable. I found the Lull string to string balance pretty good, but the Sad is a little more even. I really loved the Lull but the 35" string length was giving me tendonitis! Now that I have the Sad- no more pain.

One of the things I noticed while I had my Sadowsky Tokyo RJ5 is how slap-able the B string was. Seriously, it slapped just like the E string, it was amazing. I don't find that to be the same for most basses I have owned, including my MTD. My (now sold) Roscoe also shares this ability to some degree.

The Sadowsky B and playability still haunt me..... I want one again at some point. Just can't decide which.

Yeah, I'm weighing all my options at the moment, it's kind of a toss-up as to what my next bass will be. I have a self-imposed limit of two basses (until I start gigging other than church service), so this is a hard decision for me.

If I do go sadowsky, I dunno if I want a P/J or a J (5 strings of course). Too hard of a decision, but it is great to be in the position where I can make the choice.
