B1500 as PA??

I thought of using my Carvin B1500 amp head as a power amp for our PA head? Its rated 1900 watts @ 2 ohms, 1200 @ 4 ohms, etc.

We have a outdoor July 4th gig and our big QSC power amp just went dead. Won't be repaired in time, so could I use my big amp head as a PA power amp to run 2 or 4 (8 ohm) main speaker cabs? If so how would I hook it up? There are 4 1/4" outputs on back of amp. Will our mixer override the Carvins preamp? Or will this even work?

I have my MB F1 + 410 cab as my bass rig and we pretty much run everything thru the board.

It might work, but you probably won't want the preamp in the Carvin coloring the sound coming out of the mixer. The best suggestion would be to rent from a local music shop or sound company. You should be able get something fairly inexpensively. I'm not sure what your expecting considering you're doing an outdoor gig with one power amp.

If the carvin has a poweramp in, then by all means use it as a power amp. Just run mixer to poweramp in. From the amp, use speakons or 1/4" whichever you need, and run them to mains, subs, whatever you're using it for. You can drive up to 4 8 ohmers with the head.

If there is no poweramp in, check out bass gear mag and look at the review for the carvin. There it says what the flat eq is. Set it as close to this as you can, then plug in the mixer to the standard input. then pray that you won't need to use the drive knob at all.
