B15N Tube Preamp DI Build Report

I've been keeping busy...mainly focusing on etching the circuit boards. I now have five boards made, and board #1 is populated sans transformers (they are in the mail heading my way). I'm hoping to have a bunch of these made by the time the cases make it from the fabricator so its a just a quick assembly and then its done.

Does anybody have experience with different 6SL7s? I have this old stock russian tube, but I also have some new production tung sol. The russian tube sounds so good I haven't bothered changing it out yet.

I have quite a collection of vintage 6SL7 including Sylvania's of the type Ampeg used, JAN VT229 (Sylvania and GE), plus red base RCA 5691, my personal fave. Wanna try some?

I definitely want to try some; I intend to get some of the JAN Sylvanias eventually. I have a source for NOS quality tubes, such as the RCA, GE, etc, so I will get around to them sometime.

Possible to have a switch between 220 & 110? I'll eventually be moving back to Canada, so would be good to be able to operate it on 220 or 110 (great for world-touring musicians, too!).

With the materials I've procured, there isn't the possibility of a switch. However, I could make a pcb that could be adaptable to one or the other by changing wires. I would be happy to change the wiring for you when you come back to Canada.

Popped in the tung sol and it's really good. I prefer it over the first tube...it seems to have more texture and response to my playing. The basic tone is still there, but this one is, dare I say, "organic"

You need two Duke, one for your main board and another one for your other main board.

@Azure Skies :: Cool. I don't think I'll be pond hopping back and forth much, Diana Krall hasn't called me yet to do a world tour with her and her hubby won't return my phone calls to be part of his touring entourage.

I'll send it to you for swapping 220 for 110 when the time comes, but first the time has to come for 220v!
