Baby name article

Well I never, :-)I feel very offended by this list.

My childhood nickname, given to me by friends,
growing up was (Sketch). :D

Edit: Casper, was also later bestowed upon me for many years as I was always the only white guy around most times.

Although I could never imagine giving a child a name like that for real. I guess this is why people use nick names. I'll never understand these parents. If you want to call your kid some awful name give them a normal name for life and then give the kid a nick name he or she can actually change later or stop using, say they realize it sounds completely stupid to be named Blanket, or Apple, or X.

I tried to keep my kids names pretty normal and common.
Isaiah 12 // Sara 4 // Caleb 18 months.
What's strange is I picked all 3 names, all 3 names are Biblical and I'm an atheist.
Lol, figure that one out??????????

There is a girl in my daughters class whose first name is Abcde, middle name F.

When I worked for the courts, there was a lady who was a crack addict who named her two sons Awabatahayay and Troutfishinginamerica, another lady who was usually busted with her had a boy named Sh!thead. Pronounced Sha-theed.

True stories...

My eight, formerly nine dogs:

Gunnar

Coco
and
Cain (RIP)

Just an idea of cats we've had:

Dudley
Seven
Friendly
Mookie
Fiero
Midnight
Slip Kitty
Trixie
Alice
Serina
The General
Trouble
Mama Kitty
Bright Eyes
Boo
Ringo
Mercedes
Bear

Rabbits:

September Autumn
Silver Springs
LA Guns

And of course the Mallard Duck is named Julian

My wife was responsible for most of these names. Ringo, Dudley and Santana are typical of names from me.

How lucky for our children that we never had any!

I firmly believe in never giving a pet a "normal" name (as in naming your pet Dave). Kids should get normal names - pets get the weird ones.

I or my GF at the time have named cats:
Pisser
Mongwat
Dumpis
Orange Juice
Zandora
Zombie
Spiffy

Having a somewhat unusual first name (but nowhere near as horrendous as a lot of the modern ones) myself, I totally agree with the first part. My name was almost unheard of when I was born, and has only gotten slightly more popular over the years. If I had a nickel for every time someone spelled it wrong, pronounced it wrong, or just asked "What?", I would be rich. My last name is very unusual and is subjected to the same type of responses as the first. Googling myself has turned up no one else with my same first and last name. Uh, thanks Mom and Dad?

As for the second, my cats have human names but they're not common. I currently have Orville Gibson, Hartley Peavey, and Blanche Devereaux.

Brook'Lynn-*The abuse of apostrophes in names has to end. A reasonable person should be able to know, by looking at a name, when one syllable ends and another begins. But no, dumb****s all over the country have to be like "I'll name him Raw'Bert." You stop that. Give me some credit for being able to read even if you can't.

Haha best one by far!

I dunno, I've heard of straight up weird spellings and pronunciations from Canada. Like a guy named Guy, but its pronounced Gee, or just reading the credits to Trailer Park Boys. I've never been there but the more and more I hear about it Canada just seems like Americas "Bizarro World."

It kinda creeps me out really. Something just ain't right about those people "up there."

I have some relatives that live in one of the more rural areas of Texas, and that's where I've seen several of these names.

In almost every case, when I've seen a name like "Jayden" or "Cortlyn" it's generally white trash who think they are somehow sounding high class and sophisticated with their naming choice, and yet they somehow achieve the exact opposite effect. Such is the case when it comes to people who are often uneducated.

If I have kids, I'm gonna old school Saxon with their names.* Get ready for Æthelred, Rædwald, and Ereonberht!

*This will never actually happen. But it's still a damn sight better than Luxx and Sharpay.

Youre going to tell us all of this and then not tell us what youre name is? No fun!

FWIW, I know of 2 living people with my middle name: my Father, and his Father. My middle name is Harl. I dont know why.

I caught a lot of grief for my kids names by my family.

My dad was pissed I didn't name my first born ( and only ) son Walter William. My dads is Walter William, and my grandfather on his side was Walter ( no middle name ). I was never enamored with the idea of naming a child after me. So Nicholas Benjamin was my first "mistake".

I was raised by my Grandmother and love her like no other person alive or dead except my kids. Her name was Nadean and there was no way my daughter wasn't going to carry her name. Rebecca Nadean was my only "got it right" entry in the family. When my little "surprise!" bundle of joy was born 10 years ago she was my last gift to my Grandmother before she passed ( 1 week after Nadean Elizabeth was born ). Her first picture was of her dressed as an angel with feathery wings. My grandmother cried when she got the pictures. The other people in my family hated that I had two daughters with Nadean. I told them to fly a kite.

I had another boys name waiting if it ever happened. Morgan Nathaniel. I just love the way it rolls off the tongue. Alas it's just an idea now my shop is closed for good :D

LOL so true! A kid on my baseball team last year was named Ryker, I never understood it. Another kid on my team was Athan, which I also never understood but was actually kinda cool. A kid in my grade (in a different homeroom) is named Machuor. Win. He moved here from Kenya though so who knows what it means. With mine and my brothers names my parents decided to keep it uncommon but still normal.
I - born in '98 - am Vance. Not a common name but not unrecognizable either (it was after my great grandpa who died in a plane crash, David Vance). All three of my names are family member last names, my middle name being my mother's maiden name, Powell, then my own last name.
My brother's name is Rhys, born in '05. his middle names are those of my great grandpas on my mother's side.
It pisses me off that neither of us can find our names on keychains, but nobody has a problem recognizing the names. I'm the only Vance in my school of 1300 I'm pretty sure. I have a friend who in junior high was a bit of a rival of mine in track races, although I always won ;), who's name is Amadeus. Epic win. Now don't even get me started on the fact that nobody knows how in the hell to spell or pronounce my last name "Walkey"....

How selfish is it to give your kids crazy-stupid names that will only get them made fun of? "Gmoney"???? REALLY????

Not having kids anytime soon, but I picked out some nice, normal names for all of them so my future wife doesn't hit me with a buncha BS while I have nothing to come back with.

One thing I don't understand is why African-American boys have to have "Le" in front of their first names, like LeMichael, LeSean, LeKevin, and my personal favorite, LeGarrette. Being of French descent Le is usually found in last names, like Lemieux, Lemaire, Lejeune, ect. The one I found really strange is the NFL Player Union rep DeMaurice Smith. Gee, what's wrong with Maurice Smith, like Maurice Richard?
