I finally made it all the way through the piece today during my lesson, but it is going to take a bit to get it where I want it. My teacher was super pleased with how I played the piece and my increased understanding of how it should be performed. I know for a fact my recognition of written notes and picking out notes on the fingerboard is better than it has ever been because of learning this composition. This may sound silly, but the fact the Bach piece does not require super fast Fusion speed really allowed me to concentrate on the music instead of worrying that I am not playing as fast as Jaco on Teen Town or River People. I definitely plan on learning a few more Bach compositions.

I just committed to learning the Prelude in C Major last night. I bought a book called, J.S. Bach for Bass, a number of months ago, and have been wanting to learn that piece, and just got a Jackson bass that has the requisite 24 frets.
