Back-up choices!

I've decided that for my birthday I will buy myself another bass.

The choices are between:
Epiphone Thunderbird:

Squier Active Jazz V
Invalid Link Removed
Used MIM Jazz bass
Link Removed

I realize the pics aren't particularly necessary, but I love seeing pics in the threads and figured other may as well!!

Anyway, we play punk/metal/rock type stuff..

I'd say either the Tbird or the Squier. The Bird still looks cool, IMO, but the Squier is an amazing bass for the price. I've been meaning to pick one up, just haven't had the cash.

All three of those are nice insturments.

The Active V kind of stands out though. What do you play now? Are you looking for something to replace the sound of your current if something happens, or do you want a completely different sound?

wait just a little while longer, and your epiphone tbird choices will expand..the silverburst version is now available, and the epi-pro NT will be out in a month or so...

I own a dozen different basses, but STILL own a few Tbirds to "round out" the collection.

A silverburst T-bird would be ideal as far as that particular instrument goes, but I'm really on the fence here.
I'm currently enamored with my MIM Jazz, which is the reason I wanted another as a back up.
It's also the reason I'm interested in the 5'er, and the T-birds are just awesome.

Never played a T-bird, Gibson or Epiphone so I can't comment on it other than to point to the the mixed reports I've seen people make here.

I've owned a Squier and an MIM and I think either would be a great buy, but I'd say the the Squier looks like the value leader to me right now.

I have both a Squier Jazz V & a MIM Jazz V. Both are great if you choose carefully by playing a bunch of them. I have never owned a T-Bird but I used to have a Gibson EB 335(I believe that's the #). It was cool & I dug the sound. I have heard great things about the T-Bird's tone. Play 'em all & figure it out.

I only have experience with one of your chioces, the Squier Deluxe V. If you want a modern sound, 3 band pre, with slap switch and good string spacing for slapping, BUY IT NOW!

Honestly, I bought a b-stock (the halves don't match, one half is figured the other half not) and I wouldn't be surprised if Fender decided that Squier shouldn't be selling stuff this good and discontinued it forever (or worse yet, tacked $1000 onto the price and made it a Fender)! Only you know what you are after, and quite honestly, I like the tone of my passive basses (and the one with an Audere) better for most stuff, but for modern, slapping goodness, it's da BOMB!
