Backline Etiquette

I backline tech about twenty shows a year with a company that provides real gear that is maintained. Stuff breaks (except GK it seems), we always have a spare, and unless abuse is invloved (drummer trashing the kit) It is just a part of doing business.

Of course, that's true if that's the business you're in. Most of us are players, not equipment rental companies. It's not a part of most players' business model (assuming they even have one) to factor in breakage.

you have no idea how glad i am to be out of that scene, my friend! i sometimes have to let people use my rig, but nobody ever abuses it. i actually like to let visiting bass players use my svt. then i get to maniacally laugh as they sadly leave without it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

of course, they never have to help me load it, so i guess they're not laughing THAT hard.

What !! you let them use your SVT and they do not even help you load out!! :spit: I would buy you a beer too dude:D

If the backline is not rental I only play through my rig, and don't like others playing through mine. I have on occcaission (actually lots of times) allowed its use for open mics.

I've allowed guys to use my stuff, open drinks on amps etc, I removed my guitar from a guy I loaned it to, while he was playing, for putting a lit cigarette in the headstock. Live and learn.

ya, that's lame, right? ;)

but i'm just as lame as they are, can't lie. when i'm on the road i never help anyone load their bass amp out, either. not my job. of course, i'm usually not using someone's personal amp, but even if i am, i still never help because it's in my contract that it's all to be provided and i don't have to touch it. so on one of my gigs where i bring the amp, i wouldn't expect you to help. however, i would probably take that beer, although one's my limit ;)
