Sorry to hear about your hard times. Keep advertising, doing quality work, and networking. Building a career as a tradesman is as much about contacts as it is about contracts.

As far as material items; I'm not married to any of them. Probably the only things I wouldn't part with would be my hunting rifle and conceal carry pistol.

My job was eliminated so I kinda had to retire early, and it'll be about another year before I get relief, so I had to sell a lot of stuff.


Having been somewhat of a hoarder I had plenty to sell that I didn't even use, but fortunately I managed to keep the bass gear I wanted to keep... even managed to squeeze in a Squier VM P-5 :D

Better times ahead for you OP, don't get discouraged. :)

I'm with ya. I'm selling everything I don't play right now - which happily, is quite a bit (sorta!) - but if I don't get a real job soon, I'll be cutting into the meat - and that will *stink*

Alberta has been taking such a beating and I feel for you (I have in-laws in Calgary). Sorry to hear you had to let the 4004 go, but when oil bounces back (and it eventually will), you will just grab another. Hang in there. To your post request, I have a '74 Jazz that I would never let go as it has more sentimental value to me than any dollar value. It is an early one with the 4 bolt neck.

Sorry that you had to sell, your Ric. If I were ever in the position and whittled down to one bass I'd say it would be the Nonreverse Gibson Thunderbird I have had since '77. I don't have a pic of it on my phone but it looks pretty much like the one I am using here.

Sorry about your situation. The gear that I sold that I wish I hadn't was actually a classic Arp Odyssey. Wanted a Blue Meany but couldn't afford that, turned out that rent said I couldn't have the Odyssey either.

The only one I would not sell would be the Frankenbass Jazz fretless. I'd loose so much money on that it wouldn't be worth it.

It sucks to have to sell something. I have bought and sold MANY basses. I don't grow very attached to them. They were experiments in the "quest for tone" or the perfect bass. In many cases, you can get a very similar bass back down the road. I have even bought the same bass back more than once.

That said, I am down to one bass. I've had it about 5 years (an eternity for me) and don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. I just sold a fretless that I had made for me for my birthday last year. It's an AMAZING bass, but I wasn't playing it as much as I thought. I sold it and was able to put a nice chunk on my HELOC, put some away for the summer (I'm a teacher) and have a few hundred left to try a new DI.

We do what we have to do. I am liking that I have 1 bass. I just grab and play. I am getting to really know this bass. It is very versatile. I get a "P" tone, a "J" tone, a nice modern tone, and with some foam under the bridge it works great when I have a pit gig or something.
