Played a hard gig this weekend for only a hour and a half and yesterday and today the tip of my index finger is killing me. Now I practice 4 hours a day for years and nothing like this ever happened. it feels infected but its not nor is it swollen. But it hurts like heck!!! No pain on the side either. just the very tip.Anyone ever get this?

It could be a small sprain or fracture. I would take it easy for a while.

No, but you might want to get it checked out by a doctor. Plucking hand or fretting hand?

Shot-glass full of hydrogen peroxide - dip finger for 1 min - throw out residual fluid. Refill shot-glass with Widow Jane or Blanton's - drink it - repeat as necessary - use pick for the next 3 days.

Soak it in cider for a while.

    Best if it’s hard.

    Playing harder than
    usual? That’ll do it.
    Take it easy, dude.

Yes, often until I learned to lighten up. Now the worst thing I get is an occasional blood blister. You might just have a bruise. I'd suggest you leave your bass in the case for a day or two. If it doesn't calm down in a day or two it might be something else. Hope it clears up soon.

Dusty Hill of ZZ top broke his finger playing football in high school and it got thicker and stiffer than the others. He called it "The Pleaser".
